Scientists in Newcastle have scored a world first by creating what they claim is artificial human sperm.

Professor Karim Nayernia, from the North East England Stem Cell Institute, said his team has no intention of using their breakthrough to produce humans in the laboratory.
But he wants legislation to be put in place "sooner rather than later" to allow the technique to be licenced as a treatment for infertile men.

What do you think of this?
Is this the way that scientists must take, or do you think that making humans in labs is intolerable?

My meaning is that the natural way is the way that it must happen.
I think if they really make humans this way, there would be some mutations or new diseases.
But I'm almost certain, one day they will do it. Maybe for making humans that are more resistant for long space missions.

Cool. Here comes the days of genetic manipulation i have so looked forward to since reading Orson Scott Cards Ender books. Though, obviously, we are still a ways from your average mad scientist breeding a room full of super smart super big kids

I dont think creating people in a lab should be deemed unethical under certain conditions. We can learn so much from trail and error that is impossible through experimentation and theorizing

Great news for men who are infertile from disease, cancer treatments etc The scientists was saying it could well be common practice in 5 to 7 years. They also said it would help understand hereditary genetic problems

This isn't real clear on how they are doing it.

Is it taking a man's genetic material and simply putting it in a new "casing?" if so, then I have no problems with that.

Is it the genetic material of a goat?

It just isn't clear enough to make a decision.

Currently most analysts are saying that the science behind such a process are poorly described. Most likely a manufactured achievement.

Can you imagine a time in the far future where men and women would split off and become separate species through cloning artificial sperm ?

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't those two references you cited tabloids? I actually didn't believe it until I did my own search and started finding major news networks carrying the story:

www.nbc-2.com...
blogs.usatoday.com...

So I guess it's true! Men just became obsolete!
