Anyone any idea what the bright object approaching the sun from the left is?

Your picture did not post right please review and re post so that I can see it as I am sure it is most likely space monkeys on banana ships.

That'd be the arm coming off the satellite, which is holding the disk which blocks the bright light of the sun, protecting the sat's innards, basically lol

The "rings" seen around the planets are not real. They appear because the planets frequently saturate the CCD, causing a bleeding of pixels along a single row.

Just curious why your post was on the 7th and the image is from 7-12-09? I didn't see an edit for the 12th. How is this? automatic update?

Correct, its just a recycled URL. I used to make my own weather channel web pages that were up to date because all updated pics had the same URL. Untill the Advertising Age took over...

yall should of seen what it looked like on friday it moved a very large distance in just a weekend so planets move this fast -I HATE DISCREDITORS-

Yes -- Phage's link was to the "latest" picture, and that picture is changed often, thus the picture automatically changes.

Here's a picture from May of 2000 that shows something like the what was in the OP's image -- but instead of only one planet (Mercury) this image shows a very rare conjunction of four planets in the same field of view:

It takes Mercury less than 3 months to make one orbit of the Sun, so it is moving pretty fast. Add to that the fact that the SOHO spacecraft itself is moving, and the apparent motion of Mercury in the SOHO images could seem quite fast.
