A widespread and unusually resilient computer attack that began July 4 knocked out the Web sites of several government agencies, including some that are responsible for fighting cyber crime, The Associated Press has learned
the fact that the government Web sites were still being affected three days after it began signaled an unusually lengthy and sophisticated attack
The Treasury Department, Secret Service, Federal Trade Commission and Transportation Department Web sites were all down at varying points over the holiday weekend and into this week, according to officials inside and outside the government. Some of the sites were still experiencing problems Tuesday evening.

The EU is already rolling out the internet tax on state at a time so it's more likely than you think that something big is going on in the west to try and take control the internet from the people.

But if they wiped the data it would be good for one country but surely not the other investor countries?? I'm pretty sure they'll be angry if they lose their investments.

SEOUL, South Korea – South Korea says the Web sites of major government agencies, banks and Internet sites were paralyzed due to a suspected cyber attack.
The state-run Korea Information Security Agency said that Web sites of the presidential Blue House, the Defense Ministry, the National Assembly, Shinhan Bank, Korea Exchange Bank and top Internet portal Naver have been down or had access problems starting late Tuesday.
