FORMULA One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has described Adolf Hitler as a leader able to "get things done" in a discussion about dictators during an interview with The Times newspaper published today.

Asked to comment on accusations that world motorsport chief Max Mosley behaved like a dictator, Mr Ecclestone went on to speak about Hitler, former Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein - whom he said should have stayed in power - and the Taliban.

Bernie, you should have shut your mouth and kept your opinions to yourself. Even if you are right, you've got no place to be publibly speaking about dictatorial leaders, especially after the rift in F1 almost saw a break-away league forming next year.

Sort out your own mess first, before you go preaching to the world.

Mr Ecclestone added: "We did a terrible thing when we supported the idea of getting rid of Saddam Hussein. He was the only one who could control'' Iraq.

No worries, Bernie! It's great to know that your positive views towards dictatorships haven't influenced the way that you run F1!!!

I don't really see anything intrinsically wrong with what he's saying - maybe this is an assassination by media? He's a pretty easy target once you get an angle on him.

Well the Hitler part was at least correct. I'm not so sure about the Hussein part.
Anyone who knows their history can tell that Hitler did some amazing features with the people. That however is ofcourse overshadowed by the nazi agenda.

Perhaps you missed the intent of my OP.

I don't care what Bernie thinks of Hitler, Saddam, etc. However, his position as F1 Chief means that he should be a little more selective of what he's saying to the media. There's a couple of Grand Prix races that are held in countries with 'dubious' governments. Perhaps Bernie should choose his words more carefully.

There's been enough crisis in F1 already this year, so maybe Bernie should take care of his own in-house squabbles before he tries to fix the world.

He's only a billionaire because he has stashed monies from his F1 monopoly over the decades and he has people like Eddie Jordan scared to mutter a bad word against him, showing how intrinsically corrupt they all are, when they all ride the same gravy train.

p.s. i will bet you £3000 that red bull win the next race; Vettel first and Weber second. Unless Brawn has cut a 0.0001mm slit in their front wing or rear diffuser; F1 has become an aerodynamic joke!!

As far as I know, he did that in his own private time. Fair enough, whatever gets his rocks off. He sued a newspaper to try and keep it private from what I remember.

Bernie's comments lacked the realisation that he's speaking to the world as the boss of F1. His comments should have been more appropriate to the situation. Especially when the German Grand Prix is in a week's time... No situational awareness or tact at all.


I wouldn't mind seeing Webber 1st and Vettel 2nd. Screw the Brawns! I was a fan, but now I am sick of seeing Button's face on the podium. He isn't that a good driver, is he? Just bloody lucky that Branson dumped enough cash into the team to make the car competitive?

Perhaps that's exactly why he said it now, ahead of the Nürburgring race; he is pissing up the tree to assert his authority. These megalomaniacs have big egos, you know

Regarding Brawn, if you analyse the BS that happened last year, you can see how corrupt F1 is.

Honda quit only 6 months into the season last year, and put all there eggs in one basket by developing a new car for this season with all the new regulations the 'wise ones' had instigated. So Honda had six months tunnel time more than any other teams, who were still competing for the championship.

At xmas, Button got into the car for the first time for winter testing (after he thought he didn't have a drive) and he was 0.6secs faster than any other team...without even trying, so he knew there and then, they'd win shed loads of races.

Now we're into this season other teams have also 'copied' the rear diffuser design that gave them such an advantage. Ferrari did the same with their wheel hub-caps and others soon followed suit.

I think the best way forward is to deregulate the sport, allow them to build engines with 3,ooobhp and can do 300mph and 0-100mph in 0.8secs, lets bring it on!!! Throw an ejection seat in there for safety

I'd like to see blood coming out their noses, from the massive G-forces when they corner. They need to earn there $$$

Well i think he is entirely correct, democracy is the biggest failure of a system ever. people are like children and are susceptable to fads and gimicks which plays into the hands of any smart politician. It is open to infiltration from foreign agents. It is also effectively a stagnent system which is effectively now destroying civilisation.

The only person I ever saw who would wasn't afraid of Ecclestone & who would give him some was Barry Sheehan.

A couple of his walk-up interviews with Ecclestone at the Melbourne grand prix were priceless.

It's a pity Bazza isn't around now to stick a microphone in Ecclestone's face, rather than the rest of the current sycophants.

Well Htler did get things done. Im not sure.. if thats how I would refer to hitler, but it is true. Though he got some pretty terrible things done.. but I guess if you only care about it done, then thats fine.

He has the right to say anything he wants to say. The fact that he has money and influence do nothing to change that.

Dictatorship is flawed and hardly a successful means of government, but I find it hard to believe he was taking the comment seriously, beyond the mere fact, "They got sh!t done".

Who cares what position he's in? He can say whatever he wants. And I, in fact, agree with him. He's just another person. People need to stop giving other people special respect just because of the title they hold.

At no point is respect handed out on a platter. It is to be earned.

He's correct about Hitler, he did get things done even if they were bad.

People just need to stop having knee jerk reactions to this sort of thing, leaders in positions like these should be honest and speak their minds even if it offends people, not be politically correct drones.

If people said what they thought more and stopped worrying about being politically correct/offending others the world would be a better place.
