How useless is the United Nations?

As of late, I have often wondered how useless the United Nations truly is. North Korea is banned from all ballistic missile-related activities under UN sanctions. However, does anyone on the otherside of the fense see the UN as a powerful entity that is capable of punishing countries who negate and dismiess their sanctions?

The "United Nations" has pressed a series of sanctions against North Korea, but none have detered them from continuing their aggressive approaches against humanity. Back on October 9th, 2006, they detonated their first nuclear weapon. What did the UN due to punish North Korea? Nothing except create BS santions that truly meant no interference to the NK Regime.

I understand Russia and China, who both have veto powers, are big contributors to the NK Regime ... more importantly China, who is their biggest importer to the poverished country.

Iran has quietly watched the ongoings from the sidelines on how the United Nations has handled North Korea. They have astutely obversed that the UN is nothing but a joke that holds no merit toward punishing and/or governing out-of-place countries.

I don't know what can be done to punish NK, especially with Russia and China threatening veto votes when a strongly worded sanction is presented to the UN. I am at a loss and these little things make me a bit upset.

To be quiet honest I don't know what the point of international law is. In order to enforce it if a country does something against the law they have to invade the country. Or in short start a war.

I can understand having some guidelines in place, but not call it law. After all its not like you can arrest a country. Then even if they did it would set a really really bad precedent.

It seems more to me the UN is just an organization where our leaders get to all go meet up have some drinks, laugh and pass policy that they hope other countries will adopt.

Of course I'm from America, but I don't really see the point of these organizations.

is origin came from when back then after WW1 and WW2 general public just to see US as a very powerful nation that could make decision over other nations without previous corcerned (which is what most of us we still think that it is but anyways:@@ so the world needed to feel that should be a power higher than US so they created it for feeling more calm down about countries making decisions about other countries so in that way all afiliated nations could make decisions based on everyone opinion.

But that was back then cuz now they seem to be as a powerless org that just follow what is best for the conservator way of thinking of the big nations

The UN doesnt really exist as an entity, it has no real power as such

I tend to think of it as more of a label, a label that the most powerful countries of the world can operate under

if they wanted to punish a country forcibly ie by attacking them, well, it's not the UN that would do it, it would be the US, British, Russian, Chinese, French, German, Indian etc military's that would be doing it.

And noone wants their military to do it, so the UN has no teeth.

Besides, why punish NK for testing weapons? if we can they can

During my entire lifetime of 50 yrs, i havent found a single good work done by the UN except providing polio vaccines to the african children
UN is a puppet of the American Governemnt which they use for their personal interests

The first try was the league of nations after WWI, the UN came in after WWII and as yet is a dismal failure according to it’s stated goals. It has been a tremendous success however in accomplishing it’s actual goals, particularly in the area of population reduction. WHO? It has also succeeded in acclimating the world to having a world wide system of governance. We have a world court, a world bank, a world congress (as ineffective as it is at present), how can there not be a world government, even if it remains in the shadows? Doesn't there have to be a government to give jurisdiction to a court or a congress, and to give charter to a bank?

After WWIII (the sixth trumpet), which I believe is even at the door, the UN, or whatever it will be called then, will come into full blossom. Laugh at the UN now if you will, but it’s potential is truly terrifying.
