The Iranian authorities are asking people to make a choice which will bite the authorities in the rear end no matter which option the people choose. Either way, they still have to contend with either the chants of thousands of disaffected Iranians from the rooftops -- the same "Allah o Akbar" which heralded the toppling of the regime 30 years ago--or with the people's exposure to western media and its "corrupting" influence.

Heretofore they have tried to suppress both, largely unsuccessfully. Maybe now the government is trying to appease the people somewhat by offering a compromise and not seeming to crack down as hard on protesters. But either way the individuals choose, it will be difficult for the ruling powers.

Hey . . . .the title of this article is odd and awkward -- it wasn't translated into English very well--but that's the title that Tehran Bureau put on it. ATS conventions say I have to use the exact title that is on the article posted.

I think this article is worth reading so I will try to get it up there again.

I'm sure in a day or so somebody will post a story on this subject and get a lot of responses. This happens to me a lot.

I enjoyed the last line of this story. Isn't that the truth.

Seems to me that the government's cutting off access during the protests might have been and might remain the bigger story than the protests themselves. Thinking (hopeing) it at least opened a lot of people's eyes...

It is ironic that a Theocratic regime is attempting to stop people uttering
" Allah o Akbar " .

It was a very intelligent choice of proxy/ protest chant .
