I'm am writing this thread in order to embrace my fellow ATS'ers on ALL SIDES of the political spectrum who, in their hearts, have the interests of freedom and individual sovereignty in mind.

We all keep arguing over left and right, yada, yada and many of us are getting just absolutely SICK of it.

The only thing that people on both sides of the spectrum have in common is the fact that they are being duped.

On the left you have people being promised a better tomorrow free of hate and full of love. One that will see human beings living in perfect harmony with nature.

But your going to have to support laws that will tell people what they can and cannot say, that the government will get to decide what is acceptable speech and what is not. And that the Earth's beauty will return tomorrow, your just going to have to pay for it, literally. And people will stop killing each other once we take away all the guns. Problem solved.

On the right you have people being promised that your government will protect you from heathens and nuclear bombs. That you won't ever have to worry for your freedom to worship whichever god you chose because they make sure that evil is eradicated by the spread of democracy throughout the world, whether it's wanted or not.

But in return for that security, you have to give up your right to guns, protest, and freedom of travel. That it's okay to hold a fellow citizen indefinitely without providing evidence of the charges against them-- if there's even charges brought up and we'll make sure to terrorize the hell out of them to get information they may or may not have, because they deserve it, they terrorized us. We have the proof. we just can't show you for national security reason.

So while everyone is at odds with each others ideologies, I see that both sides are just being duped into blindly supporting "their" side.

What I have seen is that these people believe what they are being told at face value because their fear has gotten in the way. That they believe there is a right and left side to things because the other side wants nothing more that to rule the world with their crazy, repressive agendas. But neither side sees that the other just wants to live in a world free from fear, suffering, pain, oppression and greed. But they both want unadulterated freedom so long as their freedom is not infringed upon.

And the only real difference is that they both fear different things and the elite have found out that there only two buttons that can be pushed that will increase fear and depending on which one you push and when, you can get entire flocks to follow you through every single endeavor for the advancement of complete control of the masses in order to gain unbridled power along with extreme riches.

What I'm saying is that, while I might disagree with what some of you support, I realize that you have my best interests at heart. But my problem comes from the fact that your fear has gotten in the way of being able to see behind the curtain adorned with bright lights, puppy dogs, and butterflies and see what's behind it. The few enslaving the many and the darkness that ensues followed by suffering and poverty.

We are ALL afraid, but don't let that fear cloud your logical and analytical mind. Because it may doom us all.

edit: Mods I may have put this in the wrong forum. You can move it.

I might be misunderstanding your post, so I'm asking questions

On the right you have people being promised that your government will protect you from heathens and nuclear bombs. That you won't ever have to worry for your freedom to worship whichever god you chose because they make sure that evil is eradicated by the spread of democracy throughout the world, whether it's wanted or not.

But in return for that security, you have to give up your right to guns, protest, and freedom of travel. Are you saying that the right wants you to give up your guns, freedom of speech/protest, and travel?

I kinda think that you put those two paragraphs together and didn't mean to imply linking them. The right, especially true conservatives, aren't in favor of yielding any of their Constitutional rights. Conservatives want less government.

Overall, I feel your thread is about unity for the common good. Not to the point of dipping into communism, just clearing the way for people to do the right thing for each other. Partisanship has been wrecking the functionality of the U.S. for some time, IMO.

Anyway, perhaps you can clarify. Good thread.

I somewhat agree. One side says You will give us your freedom for your own good.
The other side says We will take your freedom for your own good. Tough choice.

No, no, no, no...I'm sorry...

I was saying that the people on the right are being promised security but in exchange the government they THINK is on their side wants them to give up those freedoms.

Same goes for the people on the left.

Sorry for the confusion.

Confusion was more mine than yours
Thanks for clarifying. To a great extent, I think you're spot on with your thread.

Initially, I took your thread title quite literally, and thought: If we prepare the best we are able to for whatever enemy we can, (be it domestic, international, natural, even extraterrestrial) then our fear won't hurt us.

Maybe it's a function of having seen a lot of human horror and suffering, maybe it's being on a dinky island that nobody cares about..... I just have no fear. Whatever happens to me will happen here. I just hope and pray there's some semblance of unity and cooperation between the various factions of the U.S., before the politicians drag them and the rest of the world down with them.

As always, the human species' primary predator has been itself.

Sounds like more liberal drivel to me! What part of the socialist agenda do you belong to?

-kidding, just kidding-

Nice thread, you're right.

I'm not necessarily saying people need to get over their fear because it is unrealistic. There are people who do things all the time they are afraid of and we call those people courageous and brave. You can't be courageous or brave if you're not afraid of anything. And if you're not afraid of anything then you don't know to be cautious about what may be around the corner; thereby, getting yourself into some sticky situations that could have easily been avoided.

But there is such a thing as an unhealthy fear and it's those fears that cloud judgment and make it harder to think through things logically.

I'm am sure as hell afraid of what the future brings for the world. But I think that fact that I and others can even acknowledge that fear and use it for motivation or caution rather than knee jerk reactions, is what will make the battle easier to win, should it ever come to that.

As it stands now, people are so scared that they are willing to give up certain things in order to feel safer and more content. That's what "they" bank on. That is their ONLY weapon against us. And it is an effective weapon.

As in the lyrics to Incubus' song "Drive" you can have fear, but don't let it be what drives you. You should be the one behind the wheel and your fear should be taking the back seat (or maybe put it in the trunk or drag it on a rope behind the car ).

I like Incubus. In that sense, fear is, properly, a motivating factor, as it was in early and median human history. I get where you're coming from, and I think it's realistic.

I've said on other threads that I feel I'm as prepared as I can be, and since we've chosen to make our stand here, there is little fear, just wonder. I wish everyone could feel the same.

Fear is not the enemy. Fear is your friend, but only if it's grounded in reasonable or probable fears. It can be transformed into personal power in some instances, as when a person moves forward in spite of their terrors.

Healthy fear has saved my bacon a few significant times in my life. As you said, it's important for fear to be a catalyzing agent, and not a paralitic one.

cheers

What!
You're not happy with your last two presidents? For eight years you get stuck with the draft dodging, retard that Jesus would most like to drink beer with, and now you got the your man Peter Pan.

You people really should try just a little harder...

I think you were pretty clear. Trouble is, I think the snare was sprung by the wind.

Bummer.
