Too Much Information

I have been perusing the internet and I am amazed at how much data is collected about us. Surfing habits, times spent on each single page etc. A webmaster can even recall our IP addresses and found out where we live.

I was trying to find a postcode today. No matter what site I tried, they all wanted me to register with them. Divulge more of my secrets. Why would I want to give out my email address? Its like opening the world and his dog to my inbox!

Why is it neccessary for so much info about us to be collected? Even google logs every search that is made. I don\'t see that this right.

By "us" who do you mean? do you mean ATS or us in general??

Because of the War on Information, my friend. They want to 'get to know you' so they know how to defeat you.

agencies like the NSA are notorious for this kind of data mining technology, and try to amass this information as a means of knowing the public's pulse.

You're right its amazing i mean without knowing it we give away to much personal info when we sign up for email accounts and other #.

Marketing, marketing, marketing. There is just no other way to explain it. What type of things you have shown interest (either by buying or looking at) in before are the type of products that you are bombarded with as far as advertising goes.

I only use my real name for some email accounts. LIke the one with my ISP and the one I use to eshop.
The rsst I use aliases.
Although, I don't know how much good it is. I also use a fake birthday and the opposite sex. No sense making it easier for them, eh?

It is amazing how it has sneaked up on us. I mean, as little as a couple of years ago I don't remember having to give away half as much information as I do now. Even to look at my Football clubs page (I'm a Norwich supporter btw :roll I have to give out my address and phone number. Some require my mother's maiden name.

Yeah i have just learnt not give my real birthday and sometimes real name cant be too sure nowadays. *looks over shoulder*

lol - i used to do that, but then i started to forget because i had soo many different accounts with different sites.

In the end I had to 'create' a person and stick to that alias. Like a Clark Kent by day and Superman by night ()

That is right. Also, so they can know how to control you and keep you in their grip. We feed the machine of the Government-Corporate complex that lives on our data collection. It is the strategy of the Overlords of this Earth's humanity and what David Icke calls the other dimensional reptilians. How can you stop feeding the machine though? Western governments seem to surpress any form of protest against national databases. In the UK, a biometric identity card is being brought in. It isn't clear who can access the information, it seems we can't even look at our own records. Whats to stop something like that man being arrested upon touchdown in Miami over supposed debts on the other side of the world?

Is it possible to sue for right of access to information? (I'm thinking along the lines for national identity)

I don't think that there is a way to stop the acceleration of our information technology, it is just the way our society is heading. I think it is better to realize that information is being collected about all of us most of the time whether we like it or not and to use that understanding to make better choices to be free from the machine.

get a firewall, run some reputable spyware detection/removal software, antivirus, and create an online alter-ego ie ben dover 6969 east fu street

just because they ask for your information doesnt mean you have to give them the right information

i guess you could always look up peoples data in a phone book and use that information. that would proably throw them off more than a fake name.

Whenever a site asks for an e-mail address before I can have the little tidbit I seek I use [email protected].(except for ats this ones legit).Been using it for years.
About a month ago I went to aol and tried to open an e-mail with that name and it was already taken Wonder how much crap that person got over the years.
