Catastrophic Fall in 2009 Global Food Production

The world is heading for a drop in agricultural production of 20 to 40 percent, depending on the severity and length of the current global droughts. Food producing nations are imposing food export restrictions. Food prices will soar, and, in poor countries with food deficits, millions will starve.

Wanted to post this as a heads up to you all.
If you still need one to become more self sufficient, that is.
We have been experiencing a severe drought for several years now here.
But, ironically it has been too wet and cold this year to grow hardly
anything except weeds!
The weather has been flat out terrible at times, unusual....
I am afraid this may get worse before it gets better. Any thoughts?
How will food availability be affected by climate change? Or will it?
My suggestion is we get used to it and learn how to deal with the unknown.
We have been living high on the hog. Time to start paying up?
A major contraction is taking place already, starting in Detroit.

Here in American we are burning our food in the form of fuel. It's absolutely crazy.

Yes it is! Plum crazy.
We built a huge ethanol plant here to process corn into fuel.
Guess what? It was just a big boondoggle. It just sits there now.
Oh, and we dont grow corn around here! Of course.
Now the city is stuck with it and the peeps are out of work.
Not too freakin' smart....
Whats next I wonder? I'll save my speculation for another thread...

What will happen when the climate starts to change and the rivers dry up and a whole way of life comes to an end? The people of the Murray-Darling Basin are finding out right now.

Generally here after the mid May it's safe to plant, but this year we've had three frost nights in June. The farmers around here are having trouble with the crops and last night was 1/2" of rain which is the first precipitation this month. It's dry and cold enough that I've lost half my garden.

Ethanol was always speculation but more illusion. Can't have the people thinking we are screwed totally when oil production experiences a dramatic drop.

When food supply tightens the ride will get much wilder. I have a year's supply of food, plenty of seeds, and canning jars and equipment that I bought because of the scenarios I ran through my head. If things go to pot you want to be able to eat for about a year and try to lay low, out of sight out of mind. It is likely the first winter would do in anybody that had survived a serious lack of food throughout the year. After that you are going to have to hopefully grow your own. Then you need to be able to preserve the food you produced during a few summer months to last you through the winter. Rinse and repeat. Certain types of protein would be a problem because if people were hungry most any form of four legged creature would be eaten, and eventually some two legged ones also.

A serious food shortage would be an excellent opportunity to loose weight though.

That makes my extra weight seem more like a survival strategy than a health risk. See all of us slightly overweight but not too out of shape techno geek guys will be around after everyone is else is toast. I STOCKPILE FOOD INTERNALLY THAT's it.

The peeps that think they can just throw some seeds in
the ground and live good will have a rude awakening.
These problems we talk of on here, also cause the crops to not grow!
I dont think we are as aware as we should be, generally.
With exception of the fine people here of course who
seen it coming and prepared! WTG!

Good stuff guys! I also wanted to mention the weather here again.
We have a robins nest every year in the big tree here.
This year they moved it to the garage. (on my ladders)?
(I think because of the wind constantly blowing it out of the tree)
Then it froze the eggs! If its not one thing its another. Poor birdies.
Life need certain factors that need to come together to happen.
Witness the bee dieoff. And the scary thing is; even IF we understood
half of it and IF we could do something about it, what would that be?
And,.. thats only what we KNOW about!

I heard on talk radio something about California farmers not getting water for their crops....... No links or backup to that story, just rumors...

But, it all fits..

I also have rolls of plastic to make greenhouses. Also read how the Incas had used little moats around their crops and plan on using this. Not only for water but it had the effect of stabilizing the temperature. Not irrigation trenches, they had little moats (of sorts).

Have you ever wondered how our civilization has grown so dramatically withing the last 100 years or so? One of these is petrol, we made a LOT of our current technology from this and we have NO replacement. The other is an unusually stable climate. This has allowed our populate to grow to a point way past what the planet can sustain. We're ruining our land and the seas as we try to squeeze every last ounce of food and drop of clean water from it. Prepare.

Have you read about population collapse? I have, and we are well along the path to watching mankind nearly disappear from the face of this planet. Nobody will give you a heads up. You'll just find yourself there one day.




There are tons of articles like the below article. Our food reserves\stores are shrinking and demand is growing. Not a good combo. If you were starving and you saw somebody eating a TV dinner would you take it from him? Would you take it from him violently if he didn't want to surrender it?

But blaming the weather, the global warming, is just pathetic. The agricultural policies in the most productive countries in that area are a complete joke! The Governments (well, the EU) are paying farmers NOT TO PRODUCE!

I am pretty sure you're not a farmer who has witnesssed these
changes first hand over many years like I have then.
Have you ever tried to grow a field of ANYTHING or are you just
speculating here?
The weather makes or breaks us farmers, to not give it proper respect
is assinine on our part and makes me not very happy, besides.
I do hope your right though about global warming or whatever label
you all want to call it. I shouldnt need to mention we subsidize
and also pay farmers not to grow in this country too!
If you dont want to blame the weather, blame obama if you have
some need to blame.
He seems to be a perfect scapegoat for most problems we face today.
Its still not going to change the fact that change IS happening.
To not put some of the 'blame' on the changing weather patterns is shortsided at best and suicidal at worst , and is the very reason it
will end up being much worse for all of us, including the kiddies.
(Also explains my choice of name)
This denial factor is why nothing meaningfull will ever get done
about it, ever. We will deny it right up until we go to the supermarket
and find only express lanes because they wont have more than 11 items!
Now that will be a diet we will learn to live with!
Of course it always works itself out anyway.
At that time(if it happens of course)we will just blame somebody else, probably the small time farmer for not growing enough(or the right)stuff!

Everything goes as planned. TPTB have food seed banks and eternal food gardens in nuclear-shelter-bunkers. TPTB manufacture extreme climates to ensure sheeple starve to death.
