Sub allegedly chokes student during dodgeball game

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - New York police say a substitute gym teacher put a 10-year-old student in a chokehold after the two got in an argument over a dodgeball game. The Daniel Webster Elementary School sub was charged Friday with third-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.

Detective Thomas Leak said the 58-year-old sub apparently began calling the boy 'a big baby' and a 'crybaby' after they argued about a call in a dodgeball game.

I don't have any kids but if I did and a teacher/sub choked my kid...

My mouth has even gotten me in trouble when I see a parent smacking their kid in public. Physical violence against kids, rings my bells.

I don't see a swat on the behind as physical violence. That's just a reminder of who's boss.

Choke holds are extremely dangerous and should not be played with.
If conditions are right someone can die in 8 seconds is what I was taught.
Teaching chokeholds in martial arts is not allowed here til 18 years old because of how dangerous they are.
The rules might have changed but i highly doubt it.

That guy should be made to go on the tv show bully beatdown as punishment.

I, too, have let my mouth overload my arse in public when I witness cruelty or brutality against children (or anyone else for that matter).

When you have a baby you no longer get to BE the baby. Time to grow up and be responsible for the child who depends on you to show them how to be a decent human being.

I agree, IF its actual brutality or abuse. In this case it sure sounds like it, but today we have a society that thinks THEY can jump into the middle of a kid getting his butt smacked for acting out...and I think thats wrong. Juvenile crime and misbehavior are at ALL TIME highs for a reason....when kids have nothing worry about in the way of punishment, that tends to be a problem.

Discipline is for the benefit of the disciplined. Punishment is for the benefit of the punisher.

I think putting a 10 year old in a choke hold because you disagree with the outcome of a dodgeball game falls into the latter category by anybody's definition.
