The U.K. better go ahead and introduce some kind of mitten that renders the hand completely useless, now that they've tackled knife crime with this revolutionary new invention.
It has a higher homicide rate than most of our western European neighbours, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
The UK has the second highest overall crime rate in the EU.
The UK has the fifth highest robbery rate in the EU.
It has the fourth highest burglary rate and the highest absolute number of burglaries in the EU, with double the number of offences than recorded in Germany and France
But it is the naming of Britain as the most violent country in the EU that is most shocking. The analysis is based on the number of crimes per 100,000 residents.
The U.S. has a violence rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, Canada 935, Australia 92 and South Africa 1,609.

It's not the knife, the maker of the knife, or the government of the U.K. I'm criticizing. It's the fear. People should be allowed to defend themselves... they shouldn't have to live in fear. Why are people always relying on the police to I.D. their bodies, and cameras to I.D. their killers - Instead of their own ability to save themselves from being killed in the first place?

You're allowed to defend yourself with what, exactly... your wit and charm?
I'm sure if somebody's decided they want to kill/rob/kidnap/assault/rape you, they've gone well beyond the point where they care if they're actually allowed to be carrying a huge knife or a black market gun on them...
Those people are out there. They love laws that ban guns and knives, because now they know their victims don't have any. Tradition won't stitch shut a knife wound, and stubbornness won't pick your brains back up off the sidewalk.
But it's not tradition that causes people to ban guns... it's fear.

There are plenty of burglaries in the UK; everyone has a burglary story, we've been burgled twice but people really don't mind that much. It's certainly not worth shooting soemone over.

Question is, are we capable of such crass stupidity?
In its first nine months, 126 people died after being attacked with a knife or other sharp object - seven more than in the same period the previous year.
Overall knife-related violence fell by 10%, but the number of deaths among teenagers remains unchanged.
