The clip I posted above was a case I saw a while back. I can't recall the exact details, but if I can locate them I'll post it.

From what I recall this individual was (obviously) detained. After the fact he sued the police department, claiming that he was abused by the officers.
This story aired on tv and the public was outraged. The tv station made quite a big deal about it.

THEN, the department found that they had this video. It was aired BRIEFLY...and complete silence.

My point is, find out the whole story.

Yeah they could've. It's happened many times in the past. They only need to say that they suspect faul play and they can dor what ever they want. Arrested yes, but they would have to drop the charges if they can't find any evidence. While in custody the images and video can conviniently disappear.
Photography is not a crime!

You're missing the point. We are not being shown the entire situation. Did he have a weapon? Did he assault someone? We are being show a "clip". What is the reason behind the police involvement?

If I was dispatched to a call involving a weapon, or assault, I would not ask questions. You have an obligation to protect the public, and a right to protect yourself. Police officers take the oath to protect the public, before themselves.

Yeah, hit a man who has been tazered and is on the ground protects everyone. You're living in a different world

[Edit] My reply was to the fact that the police could've taken the footage and the guy who filmed it. He was lucky that they didn't care.

Regardless of whether or not the man being tasered is a criminal, the police have a responsibility not to over-use force, especially tasers. As these have been known to be fatal in rare circumstances, and therefore are meant for extreme situations only in place of using a gun. When you have 4 cops and one man on the floor they can easily restrain him without using the taser three times. And remember it was three times they tasered him! Once we can forgive and say the police panicked and so tasered him, but 3 times is ridiculous.

and what about the poor 47 year old at the g20 summit 2 months ago who was nothing to do with the trouble (that the police caused) his only crime was closing his newspaper stall nearby and started walking home, his path took him across police officers in riot gear but not to close, one of the gung-ho officers ran up to him, broke ranks and had to run a good 10 feet to intercept him for no reason at all and hit him on the head with a baton, then a few minutes later the guy suffered a heart attack i think, and surprise surprise he died! was that justifiable force? do you think he might have had a grenade/knife/gun? dont make me laugh, its all sh*t! you hear me? that was totally uncalled for! then his seargent got fired a few days later as he went on face book and wrote "oh well, looks like on of my lot have gone and killed someone again!" go you police sympathizers, i dare you to tell me thats justified!!

Witch hunt anyone? I thought the point of this site was to "deny ignorance"? Your taking one case, one, and assuming that ALL cops are brutal. Well lets look at some of the incidents in the past.

English and German soccer fans clashed today after Germany's second-round victory over Sweden. Thousands of drunk English and German fans had gathered in the city's Schlossplatz to watch the game. After Germany's 2-0 second-round victory, trouble broke out and both sets of fans traded punches before dozens of nervous-looking riot police moved into the area. German and English fans were separated into spearate corners as tables, chairs and bottles were thrown back and forth.

Well I guess then, all soccer (football) fans are brutal.

Bolivian Congress Breaks Into Massive Fist Fight A fistfight broke out Wednesday in Bolivia's Congress. Lawmakers came to blows as a long-simmering fight for control of the country's judicial branch boiled over. (Aug. 22)

Well I guess then, all congressmen are brutal. Link

It was 1979 and a beautiful afternoon for a race in Daytona, FL. Thousands of spectators showed up for one of the most spectacular events of the year. This was the first race where CBS broadcast a race from start to finish and the drivers, crew, and fans were pumped full of adrenaline. (Those days people would only get to see bits and pieces of the race on TV) The race was thrilling with position changes going on everywhere… a huge battle was going on for first place between Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison with record speeds. Richard Petty was in third and at least a half a lap behind the battle for first. Who won? Well take a look below to see what happened on the very last lap!

Well I guess then, all nascar drivers are brutal.

Just my opinion, but I find it funny. You have these people that say "F the police". Then something happens...and they cry, "POLICE"!

i never stated all police where like that not once, but me personally i would never ask the police for help ever again, i got burgaled a few years ago and they stole my sons ps2 and i knew who it was, told the police about it and they said they would send someone out, i'm still waitng! oh and just for extra perusal on your part i currently have a complaint going against the police for battering me 3 weeks ago when i had a few drinks with a nfriend and was walking along the street late at night when 2 burglaries had taken place close by, afterr i was subdued and on the floor arrested one of them put his foot in the back of my head pushing my face in to the ground while one of them proceeded to start punching me in the head and then i was hit with the batons a few times for good measure as well, probably as i am a big guy i am 15 stones and 6 foot tall, the didnt do that to my friend though as he is only small!! all the while i was screaming at them that i had suspected epliepsy, plastic surgery in my wrist as well as they where slamming cuffs on me tight, when this happened i was a week away from seeing a neurologist for head trauma from past injuries and i collapsed twice in the police station!! how do you like dem apples!??

LOL did you see the way the policeman kept saying "TASER TASER TASER!"

And they seemed pretty rude to the crow "F OFF!" And one pushes that guy away, instead of telling him to move first.

They could at least "try" be a bit more friendly, and then people might actually like them.

Also check out how they call for backup when the crowd comes, I think they did that because they know they are doing something wrong and the might not like it.

Something very similar happened to me concerning the police. A year or so ago I happened to be awoken by the sound of the house behind mine being broken in to. I phoned the police then went outside into the alley to confront the thieves but they had gone. I wandered four roads down looking for them, then on my way back home the police turned up, arrested me and threw me in the back of their car. It was a full twenty minutes before they were satisfied that it was me that had called them in the first place. And then, just to add insult to injury, they asked me which way I thought they had gone,, and when I told them they drove off in the opposite direction!
I share your pain, I wouldn't bother asking for help from the police either.

Suddenly I feel ashamed to live in Nottingham and surprisingly proud of what the chav doing the filming did - posting it on youtube.

Safe times are gone. Whatever that fellow did there was absolutely no need AT ALL to punch him like that.

A police officer was assaulted, the force claimed, and needed hospital treatment.
A spokeswoman for the force said no complaint had been made against the officers involved and no-one had been suspended.

A shocking statement, when you think about the insurmountable evidence there is in favour of at least suspending the officers in question pending an inquiry. What if nobody had been around to witness this? How many more incidents like this are happening in and around the UK in general without anybody knowing about it.

Do you still feel safe?

There is no need for them to punch him like that.

Reminds me of Mark Aspinall's case a while back.

I obviously don't think all police are like this... but there are an alarming rate of nasty bastards out there.

Have come across a few in my time actually....they get so gee'd up man... not good.

I love the way that after that last video, there were no other posts.

I think that ladies and gentlemen is what we call a 'clincher'. The sheer fact that we have seen so many examples (just within the past few years) of police brutality, tells us that there is something badly wrong with the system.

The system is propagated by the people who benefit from it. The Senior Police Officers, and those in government. Our Police force is degenerating into a 'Stazy' like situation - and no amount of 'denial' on the part of many of the posters in this thread is going to stop it.

Deniers - I sincerely hope you one day see just what Police Officers are capable of. I pray it isn't at your expense.

I have seen FIRST HAND, what they do. I have helped the victims myself, covered in THEIR blood, and risking attack myself from the out-of-control psychopathic officers dispatched to the streets on weekend evenings.

I've been attacked by strangers before, and helped by good, decent Police MEN & WOMEN. I owe them (they're doing the job they're paid to do), but they retained my dignity and self-worth in a difficult situation.

I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. It's time you all learned, and stopped tarring the evil pernicious bastards in the Police force with the 'HAPPY HAPPY MCDONALDS BRUSH' that you love to use. Everything is not peachy, there is no catch-all viewpoint, you do not have the answer. Period.

The Para.

I've lost count the number of times I have heard the age old adage, They're not all bad, but recently from my own experience and what I have read here on ATS, the larger proportion of the police force do seem to be bad and totally out of control. You hear one or two stories and you think it could happen to anyone but when you see the whole picture it becomes alarming and scary.
Personally, I have never liked the police after what happened at Hillsborough. They lie, they cheat and they will literally do anything to save their own, and their fellow officers hides. And if that means the innocent go to prison, so be it. . .The days of the rosy faced helpful police constable have well and truly gone. In their place have emerged a violent, brutal, police force who are just as likely to strike out at you as they are a true criminal.
