He's been a structural engineer for decades, specialized in oil rigs that are designed with hydrocarbon fires in mind, and been contracted by several different firms for expensive ("important") projects. That's different than just anybody saying someone like that. As in, there's a very good chance this guy isn't actually too far gone, considering what he does for a living.
