Gingrich: Americans 'surrounded by paganism.

thinkprogress.org

GINGRICH: I am not a citizen of the world. I am a citizen of the United States because only in the United States does citizenship start with our creator. [...] I think this is one of the most critical moments in American history. We are living in a period where we are surrounded by paganism.

Here we go, the Christian freaks have a new one.

-"I am not Not a citizen of the world".
Way to go bro, very "progressive". (every other country must be "EVIL")

-"The United States does citizenship start with our creator".
So basically, anybody who isn't a Christian (you know he means Christian), even born in the U.S, is not a "real" citizen.

It has always been this way, as long as the world existed...for about 6000 years...

Sick.

We are a nation of FREE RELIGION. LIBERTY.

Has this man fallen of his rocker?

We are a melting pot of ideals, beliefs, AND religions.

Don't elect this man President...as I know he WILL RUN.

Don't do it please!!!!

Since when was paganism bad?

Answer: When the Christian fath said so.

The pagans were nature warshippers, the worst things they've ever doe was dance naked around the maypoll at the summer solstice (july 21st), and orgies on the winter solstice (december 25th).

Paganism will be always here, as its about energies etc... and people will always be out to exploit energies.

He is just trying to play on the corrupt aspect of american society and plenty of people are sick of what america has become.

This guy is going completely off the hook. Do not listen to his rhetoric. He is simply courting a demographic to nail it like in a whack-a-mole game. He is a "pagan" himself and is performing his part in the global civilization plans.

Hmmmmmmm.....so Newt, adulterer and many times divorced is speaking for Christian values???? This, the man who cheated on his wife and asked for a divorce when she was critically ill , in the hospital? How many wives has he taken on and disposed of? What a sickening, thoroughly disgusting and physically repungnant hypocrite!

I'm glad to see Mr. Gingrich is still stuck in a 14th century mentality. He probably doesn't even know what Paganism is.

Seriously, 'surrounded by pagans'? Does he understand how tiny a minority Paganism represents in the world? My guess is he's just using it as a blanket-term for all nonchristian religions. What a disgrace.

He is forcing the left-wing media to swing to the right, that is why he is making these absurd statements.

He is saying things so completely off the wall knowing that the left-wing media can't contain themselves to not give him the time of day. He doesn't care if they make him look bad or crazy or whatever his main objective is to keep their attention in the right hemisphere of politics, and he is doing a pretty good job of it.

He is setting up them up for who ever runs in the next presidential run. Obama is setting dangerous precedents by attacking private citizens and media organizations. If the Republicans run somebody with cajones in 2012, the left isn't going to have a leg to stand on.

Edit - spelling and grammar

Actually, he's swinging to the right to have everything go to the left. He should be careful though, as it could swing too far left. But, in doing that, he is practicing the teachings of his "paganism".

Nowhere in his statement did he state it was necessary for one to be Christian to be a citizen. He states that only in the United States does citizenship begin with the creator.
That's a big difference. Nowhere did he refer to The Creator by ANY name.
This is one of those threads where everyone wants to start bashing the Evangelicals. Bash away! But go back and read what he actually said first.

Nope, you can't see the strategy that he is employing. He is show that the left-wing media is nothing more than an attack dog who will say anything to demonize the opposition.

This is just the first strategy in this. Who ever they run against the Dem's in 2012 considering they have the cajones will be able to paint a clear picture of the left as being hypocrites.

You are just unable to see it. Believe me after Obama gets done in 4 years the country will be firmly planted in the center, the far left radicals, like Obama, won't stand a chance to ever get elected.

That is if there is even a country left by that time.

The problem is, is that I see too much. He seemed to get a little ticked lately, after the tea parties and whatnot. I know he likes the internet. Does he come visit us from time to time?

There is no true left/right, us vs. them paradigm. Republicans are supposed to serve as the opposition party to the de facto party but truely it is all one.

If you're saying the ultimate goal is to center the country, I couldn't agree more. Only thing is, the true center is probably a bit left of the skewed perception of center we now have.

That is if there is even a country left by that time.

That's is the plan in a way. Yes, indeed-- 100 states, 1000 states, etc.

Newt is trying to position himself for a run at the WhiteHouse. His handler, rush Limbaugh has convinced him to start campaigning early. Shore up the support of the Religious Fundy Right first, then get the NRA and next try and look moderate and try to win favor of the disgusted GOP.
Sadly as ChrisCriky said his past women troubles will sink his chances before it even gets off the ground. Even conservative women think he is a scumbag for divorcing his first wife while she was in the hospital with cancer. This fact will haunt Newt and sink his political ship. He will eventually be a talking head on Fox.

People trust Pagans much more than neocons. What a stupid remark.

Newt, you little devil, you outslicked Slick Willy. You went from Lutheran to Southern Baptist to Catholic. As a SB, you accepted Jesus as your personal savior and wiped out your sins, which maybe helped win elections in Georgia, too. Becoming a Catholic takes care of the bedevilment of your divorces.

Oh, I agree with you that America and the Creator go hand in hand, in the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. We certainly do see the Creator's handiwork in Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Of course, sometimes He gets angry and wipes out part of New York City and New Orleans, because of all those pagans here. At least that's what your former Southern Baptist mates said.

Newt, tell me what your plan is to wipe all those pagans from the face of the Earth. Maybe you and Mel Gibson can make a movie showing me how all those pagans have been screwing things up for me and my fellow citizens.

Oh, you said right here, in regards to your wanting to convert to Catholicism, "And part of me is inherently medieval. I resonate to Gothic churches and the sense of the cross in a way that is really pre-modern." So, are you talking about pagans in the general sense of not thinking of God in your terms, or, like, something from before your new religion started converting the hell out of Europe?

One more thing, if you're into gothic, I suggest you and the missus keep it at home, especially if you're thinking of any political future. But, hey, if you get to liking pre-modern, maybe your next religious incarnation will be as a pagan...in the pre-modern sense.
