US Soldiers Commiting Treason?

I have a legal question. Can, and should, the US soldiers who brutalized the Iraqi prisoners be convicted of treason? Treason, because it's war time, and as well as they have given 'aid and comfort to the enemy'. What is the diffference between those soldiers giving terrorists guns, or giving those terrorists those pictures? Both scenarios cost Coalition forces even more lives. Both put weapons into the hands of the enemy. Those are so devastating that the Pentagon asked the media not to show them for two weeks, becuase they knew the it would make their mission more difficult. Plus, it would show the rest of the world that the US won't tolerate such behaviour.

War crimes perhaps... Treason? no...
The letter of the law is a bit more literal and to charge these morons with treason is a bit of a stretch...
Although I agree with you - they have certainly "armed" the enemy with these photos...

Does anything the people photographed are going to Leavenworth? I know nothing of how miltary displine works in high profile cases. Are people typically just discharged and that's it?

Well, I guess it depends what the military decides to do. They make have to make an example of those involved. The only other situation that comes to mind is My Lai and Lt. Calley in Vietnam.

I don't think they could legally be charged with treason for this effect because it is purely speculative. No one knows what the actual effect the acts of these biotches will have regarding the future of our plight.

If the Judge Advocate General could somehow charge with high treason at time of War, a good SUMMARY EXECUTION would be just the thing to make sure the world knew, ourselves included, just how brutal we can be, if anything. Then I think we'd have a war on three fronts!

I honestly cannot believe they were stupid enough to do what they did... or maybe they were intending on giving the President and to a much lesser extent, Mr Blair a massive headache during the run up to the elections!

Jokes aside, it was just disgusting what the soldiers did, and i hope none of the British troops have done the same...

So now everytime i travel during rush hour when everywhere is cram packed with people, some guy who has a grudge against me for being a UK citizen, will commit suicide and take me with him/her... all thanks to Tony's agenda on snubbing Europe and getting in bed with Dubya.

thats just utterly insane. sued for being pissed on? crazy. these people probably deserved death... not to mention being pissed on and rifle-butted.

I doubt they could be convicted of treason, but I definitely think there should be some kind of courts-martial for them.

Now if you want someone to string up as a traitor, look no farther than Anthony Blair esq. Actually, I think I need to contact the Oxford Dictionary and insist that the description of the word 'Traitor' be replaced with Blair's photo.

I would like to know how the photgraphs got into the hands of CBS. Those responsible, and CBS, have contributed to the deaths of more US soldiers as a result of their actions.

Yes, GS, they could sue the U.S. government over that. Just being pissed on? and rifle-butted? I pray you are not in the military. It makes no difference whether they deserved it or did not deserve it.

yeah they will get a good amount of rock breakin time in the levy. no doubt an i think they could sue but the guberment is prolly holding them still for their orginal crimes? or did they get released? on any note i think the guberment will pay them upfront without a sueing fiasco.
