There is only one solution to this. You need to participate in the education. When the newspaper screws up, write a letter, call the editor even

90% of the time, people are just uneducated. If you let them know that they are being a bit offensive, it will at least make them pause. Some will
change immediately, some will wait until they have a crowd to follow. Some have some miseducation to unravel, they will take a bit longer.
Just don't do it while your blood is boiling. Don't yell and threaten. Treat them with basic human respect because it is ignorance not malice that
led them to get it wrong.
I guess my other comment is why do you expect them to be educated? The education efforts by the pagan community has been inconsistent, unorganized
and rarely maintained for a long enough period of time to have a cumulative effect.
You also have a huge issue with negative branding by established religions that you have to overcome. Just another reason why your community needs to
organize and select a presentable leader/evangelist/marketer to educate (and protect yourselves from the bad guys.)
