~Simple Man~

As a simple man grew bolder
All the distant world grew colder
As a simple man sought questions
So slipped away redemption

As a man who lost religion
As a man who chose decision
As transformed from broken bones
This simple man now walks alone

From sheep to wolf he chose
Now withered like a weathered rose
His sense of humor failing
Such little light inside remaining

Though tempered through life's storm
His thoughts possess and swarm
Should I have left that life behind?
Were those choices made then blind?

Now he withers in his chair
All alone full of despair
As the rain begins to patter
Not the world can even matter

As destiny awaits this man
Of leathered skin and brandish tan
He thinks his life over and cries
But dammit all to hell, I tried!

Summoned strength of words he spoke
Upon the bed of death he woke
To shout a verse of angered pain
To wash away all life's disdain

Oh weakened body rise!
Tonight I join the skies!
As death will give no worth!
He will have to catch me first!

Though nimble he stands up
He drops his scotch filled cup
With what fight remains inside
This simple man has died

Oh dragons lair of mind doth weep
While innocence be bound in sleep!
Although forced fate will seem to creep
The abyss of mind is oh so deep!

From longing pain and hope to pass
All essence, thought, and dream surpass
Abandoned by his life, how vast
Like the rest but not the last!

I echo her thoughts. Wonderful. And thank you.

I once knew a simple man, got to know him well,
the mirror wouldn't answer, nothing much to tell,
but his eyes, they beckoned,
to see him as "he reckoned",
simplicity . . earned from life's hell.
