i am 14 and i live in england (near london-ish), and i live with my parents who dont give a **** about all this. i can see where they are coming from since all the NWO, depopulation, flouride and RFID is quite fantastic...

anyway my question is, what will i need to do to survive in the VERY unlikely event TSHTF? (in my opinion)

i grow a lot of vegetables, but im definatly cant rely on it alone,
i know north, east, south and west by just studying the sun/moon,
i am a black belt at taekwondo,
i have done weapons training with a rifle. (i can aim and reload very fast)

oh and also...should i go it alone or in a group? and should i stay in the suburbs or go into the country or town?
thanks.

p.s. bear in mind, guns ARE illegal in the UK

Human beings NEED other human beings. I think it's best to be with other like-minded individuals, provided the 'like' is relatively sane and stable.

I will be as far away from any population center as I can get. I live in a city of 30 thousand people and will scoot several hundred miles away when I feel it's time. Increase the population and I think you increase your risks. Get out of town.

Water, Food, shelter, companionship and a way to protect yourself and your fellows.

Someone told me one time 'sometimes you just have to step over the bodies.' I wish you could get your parents to prepare as well. If not for TSHTF, then just because it's a good idea, but in the end, you can't be responsible for their decisions.

I would look for relatives that have property somewhere far away from 'civilization.' If you don't have any out there, then you may have to get a group of buddies together and make a plan.

Good luck.

I'm no expert but common sense tells me to keep the hell away from population centers as looting and violence will be rife. Marshall Law will probably be enforced with extreme prejudice to protect the Capitalists Investments, people will be killed for trying to feed themselves and their families by raiding supermarkets as many city dwellers do not know how to live off the land.

If you are going to run to the countryside, be aware that not all guns in the U.K are illegal ( not that this will matter if TS truly HTF ) and that sooner or later the country-folk are going to get annoyed with the "City Pests" coming to try and pilfer livestock from farms and hunt on their land, so will probably employ the best pest control method they have which is the shotgun.

So, if you don't fancy getting peppered with buckshot, get here early and have something to offer such as a rare or essential skill such as medical training, engineering, building or even just hard labor and you will be fed and protected which is probably the most one can hope for if TSHTF.

Please try to bear in mind that a total collapse of society probably will not be as there is too much invested in the status quo to allow this to happen. However, it is wise to be prepared, so make sure you have an exit, make some friends in the countryside, get some medical or other training and you and your family should be fine.

Dude, stop worrying that's the first thing to do, whilst there is a good bit of sound info on ATS there sure is a load of BS to go with it.

You're not that much older than my daughter, and although I admire your acquisition of information, as opposed to spending your time drinking cheap cider and taking drugs. I would be quite concerned if my daughter was asking what your asking.

Think about this for a minute, WTSHTF doesn't actually mean anything, it is a phrase coined here on ATS. A what if (although a possibility) not a certainty, not a when.

If it is a when, then we all just better give up right now and start looting running to churches or raping, whatever it is we would do.

Here's a piece of advice take it or leave it up to you, I will probably get flamed by others but you have your own mind.

To help you feel more secure, get your hands on a motorbike (if you can) or something that'll go across country , pack some emergency supplies and keep them with the bike and forget about them. If you have to use them go to the west coast of Scotland or the highlands (if you want to know why there go to a library)

You're parents may be arseholes but in quite a few years (WTS dosen't HTF) you'll still remember their good points, so go easy on them, everyone has the right to screw up.

If you go to school keep going, teachers are like any other people , they're not all dicks and you may find, some may think like you. If you don't go to school then you have no right to criticize your parents, your smart enough to know better.

If you have concerns about the way life is, share it with kids your own age and change the world, the sheeple you call adults are mostly too dumb to listen to what you have to say, so use your youth wisely and prepare to become someone who will make them listen by changing things.

Prepare for the best not the worst, preparing for the worst is dumb, the only way our species has survived this far is by preparing for the best. You go fishing to catch a big fish not a tiddler, prepare for the best.

Spend less time on ATS and more in a library, reading someones posts can be entertaining and sometimes informative. Reading books is always informative and sometimes entertaining.

why the west of scotland? for the islands? do you mean in ayrshire or argyll

the highlands......thay dance with there dead up there you know?

from london it would be an oddesy to get up there if the SHTF i`d head for robin hood country if i were you but at 14 you should be in a group with older people alone would not be wise, but its not gonna happen anyway, just be ready on the off chance it dose, don`t plan your life around it

Ive not come to flame you... promise

I agree with parts of your post...

Motorbike and bugout bag are top sugestions... as is staying at school and not being too harsh on parents...

But it kinda feels a little patronising in the sense of "only adults should worry about that stuff and I doubt if anything will happen anyway"

I would understand your response better if Interryanmilan sounded alarmed or distressed but i feel that he sounded pretty calm and level headed.

Sorry if I’ve misread the message you are trying to give.

I see survival preparation like i see house insurance... I don’t know anyone who's house has burnt down... but i still have house insurance because i know it is something that can happen and has happened to others.
Same with survival...
I have never experience a famine, plague, war or any major catastrophe but i still have some kit put aside for the what if... im not obsessed with it... just preparred. Guess its kind of a hobby/interest.

Interryanmilan...
Growing veg is a fantastic thing to do... not just from a survival point of view but spiritually, physically and mentally. Check out worldwatchers post...

Square Foot Gardening for Hard Times and Survival

All the other skills you mention are great too 

I think if something did ever happen your parents would soon come round to your way of thinking... like someone said earlier... best to get far away from population zones... personally i would head to the south west of the country but anywhere that is away from major citys/military base’s will do. I live in Kent and have a couple of bugout locations depending on the situation.

Interryanmilan you should just go with the flow. If it ever happens, then worry about it. Right now, you are 14 years old and you need to get a good education and ATS is not where a good education comes from. You can't learn anything on ATS that will give you a career in which to make money in which to live life as it should be lived with "family" and friends.

Your parents and your brothers and sisters are your primary way of living now and in the next several years. You cannot even think about leaving your family behind, that is a cowards route of thinking about family. Family is family, friends come and go.

If something should happen in the future as you suggest it might, then if you leave your family behind and go on your own or with friends whom you think you can rely on, then you my friend will most likely end up a chicken dinner at a barbeque somewhere out in the middle of nowheresville. Here today gone tomorrow.

Being a black belt in taekwondo is great, but it will get you seriously injured in most "street fights" because to street fighters, its do or die.

Anybody can shoot and reload, the question is... have you learned to make "every single bullet count"? Waisting of a bullet can get you killed out there in this world. In the first place, once you fire a gun everyone will know you have a gun, and soon they will be coming to pry it out of your cold stiff dead fingers.

Learn how to use a bow and arrows, because they are silent and re-usable. If you can master a bow and arrow, then learn how to make your own bow and arrows, because yours may get stolen some day. Only the strong will survive. Get a good hunting knife, one that you can use as a saw to open animal carcasses up, such as deer, if need be to butcher them for their meat. Never ever carry any type of weapon with you, until you really, really need to; and never ever let anyone know you have any weapons, or they will tell others whom will relieve you of your weapons while you are gone.

If something does happen, don't ever leave your family behind, that is the number one rule. You watch after them because they will watch after you, as they always have. Learn to live together in times of peace.

Peace my friend.

I wouldn't pay a lot of attention who would limit you because of your age. I've seen some really independent, tough, canny youngsters of fourteen years.

Read. Read and think on what you read. Search on the internet and you can get a load of crap on occasion, but you'll soon know who's got things that would pertain to your specific needs.

I think all would agree that one should avoid populated areas, one should stay off roads and other easily anticipated lines of approach, and a hundred things you can get into your head like, never have a fire after dark, and try to avoid contact with others until you believe you've reached your destination.

You study, read, and prepare what you can with what you have. Always planning three days in advance. Always asking yourself, "what if . . . " Do it often enough, and there won't be a lot of wasted time later.

And cut your parents a bit of slack. Very likely they don't like what they're seeing either, but don't want to worry you or even each other.

To be honest ( make that Hopeful) nothing is going to happen, we all think about WTSHTF as something really , really bad, like alien invasion , solar flare wiping out all electics, armed invasion, nuclear war , bio attack even my favorite zombie infestation.

I live in south London/ Surrey area and have scouted the lay of the land down here, and have realised that in the UK there is very little space should we all have to leave the cities for whatever reason. there are virtually no forests ( of a large enough size) , the land sort of goes, cities for miles , road with shops and houses, bit of green , like a small park, TOWN, road, TOWN, a small field, TOWN. get the drift yet?

Most people will follow the main roads and motorways and thats where the biggest jams will be , learn the ratruns and find the open spaces to the sides of the routes you wish to take should you have to.
I went to the south coast a couple of weekends ago and WOW what a difference from the main roads. Lots of open fields , and at one junction there was more rabbits than I counted the whole of last year sat on the grass enjoying the sun.

I'd recommend , from a bikers point of view , when your old enough or even now learn the skills to ride a motorcycle properly and safely, heck anyone can and should learn that, it evens makes you a safer car driver. Learn small and then get bigger as you get more experience and invest in an 'offroad'/ adventure bike. ( a piece of advice here , is buy a clapped out old off roader, and rebuild it, they're cheap enough if you find one you might like, rebuilding it gives you the skills to keep it going, my advice is not buy any books for it, but learn as you experiment with what goes where. I buiilt up bike from a rolling chassis and the engine for that came in 3 boxes, I got it running and ridaeble - priceless)

A bugout bag is essential these days, as you never know what event can/may/wil happen, even if its a solar flare or total economic collapse ,people will start to panic , as they are out of their comfort zones and most do not have the survival skills and will rely on the Government to bail them out, but to be honest , the Government wil be looking out for themselves and their families first before looking after you. Self reliance is paramount in any event .

You can turn your 'recon' into a fun outing , I take my wife out all the time on the bike , we aim to go somewhere and as we are travelling I check out what's available, I know there are 2 gun shops within easy reach and on the way to the south coast area, plus where there are supermarkets and wholesalers, most people in 'chaos' will run to their local supermarkets to loot the shelves there or their local high street, as you travel look for the smaller back street isolated cash and carry's or 'specialist' shops Like 'Wing-Yip' ( a local Chinese takeaway suppliers).

As other people have suggested stick to schooling as present , DO NOT get paranoid as it will only affect your life now, Be prepared incase, its better to have the equipment and have no need for it than to have the need for it but no equipment.
And at 14 you can call it your' adventure bag / camping gear' should your parents ever worry about it.

DO NOT have any large knives hanging around the place as your parents may get worried and think your part of a gang . Take archery lessons , go camping with your friends to get them and yourself acclimatised to it, that way you can find out which friends would be a reliable source of company, you may even find one or two that think the same as yourself.

Find other local survival groups or people, ubut IMO most important of all other than the equipment you can gather is the knowledge you can get together, the attitude to 'be prepared' and the positiveness of thinking you can handle it would make it easier should any event kick off.
If you need anymore advice U2U me and I can point you at a site I frequent ful of likeminded individuals.
All the best, Plan for the worst, hope for the best, that way if the worst happens your prepared and expecting it. If the best happens you'll be pleased.

Not trying to be patronizing in any way, I take my hat off to a 14 year old who spends time checking out things like this.

I did not intend to imply that "Only adults should worry about this stuff" as it's"adults" that are causing the problem anyway.

However, I was trying to send the message that worrying about this stuff achieves zero and is unhealthy but bringing people of his own age to the discussion could achieve great things.

wouldn't worry to much about age matey. at at your age i was constructing first world war type fire trenches,(cold war era). learning life skills with spirit levels bow saws and shovels , no petrol driven gear in my day.
as stated earlier get yourself a motorbike trial/moto.x type learn with your mates simple mechanics and running repair. if possible sign up to summer training scheme like canoeing /sailing. you will meet like minded people i'm sure, and good luck mate..

You obviously don't know the law my young friend.

Guns ARE legal, you just need to join the nearby gun club or have private land, do probation and apply for a FAC. A good club will source you a FAC appl form. Jump through the bs hoops and you'll have one.
That will get you rifle and target pistol (2ft).
You can also source muzzle loader parts if the club has connections, which are legal cause it's an archaic firearm type

Good to see you've taken an interest in this sort of thing at a young age.

Russian Scientist is being a bit extreme about sticking by the family.
If the family want to tow the government line and be sheeple / refuse to be self-sufficient then it's time to find a new one or make some new friends imo.
But then you also need to get a good job or career under your belt to get some money.
You don't really need masses of cash to get into survivalism (but it helps) but you will need some if you want to build up catches, tools, weapons, vehicles and so on.
Try to steer clear of anything service industry or office-work related. You typically want something like a trade - Welder, plumber, brickie, joiner etc. These are always useful skills to have. So make your choice and start on an apprenticeship

Yeah fair point Moccowman. Cant disagree... although i dont see the harm in thinking about this subject, and considering the what if's, i a agree that it is not good to worry about something that may not happen in our lifetime.

My cousin's motto is "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst".... The gloom and doom of it all, it's a dreary way to look at it but you can't let this eat you up inside! We all need to be a little more positive, prepared yes, but nonetheless optimistic.

I live in Canada, and if the chaos happened here, in the winter.... the majority of us would be done for. My survival skills aren't the greatest, I'm a terrible hunter and a mediocre fisherman. Take away my electricity and I'm in rough shape!

But even with everything that is going on around us... look at the big picture.

Society as we know it isn't going to crumble. Globalization will continue, but poop isn't hitting any fans anytime soon. Everyone is Fecebooking, Tweety tweeting and ahem, shooting the breeze on ATS, there's nothing to worry about... It's all under control!

Like you said moocowman --> We don't go fishing to catch minnows.

Interry, stay in school and keep educating yourself with some of the great minds here too. Get your bike, get some ladies, be a man! You have your whole life ahead of you bud, chin up!

The general consensus seems to be to get out of the big city's as fast as possible and hide out somewhere in the country. Since you're London-ish based then perhaps you should make for Dartmoor.
I live in Aintree (home of the Grand National) on the outskirts of Liverpool and I've made plans to run north into the countryside. Staying in the city would be suicide.
For a fourteen year old you seem to have your head screwed on right. Make a simple plane and then put it to the back of your mind and forget abou it. It, hopefully, will never happen.
