World War Zombie

If you've read World War Zombie,, some of you may, may not know that it's being converted to a film by Brad Pitt Studios.

Well, they've made some changes. One example so far is the virus itself.

If you've enjoyed the book, then you probably remember the name of the virus was called "African Rabies" due to it's symptoms.

Well, I've been checking the news on the movie, and this is a link pushing the release date of the movie.

Betcha they changed it due to the swine flu.

Hope not... Amazingly, the rabies virus is very similar to a zombie-like virus. It's 100% fatal, makes one thirst (so a mutation could trigger hunger instead), makes victims aggressive, starts with a fever, eventually attacks the brain and nervous system, etc. A rabies outbreak (assuming you made the public aware of the symptoms of full blown rabies) would be the PERFECT cover story for a zombie outbreak...and that's why it works in the book.

I wonder how they'll do it. It would seem pretty boring to go like the book, and be recollections. Would probably have to have a couple different stories of people and their troubles during the war, and then weave them together with some inter-related characters or something.

The writer film said it's to be styled after the Bourne Identity, Ain't It Cool News compared it to Children of Men.

Here's a review of the script, my main issue here is that it's been in pre-production now for awhile, and the script was leaked a year ago.

Sounds like they do plan to follow the format of the book. I'm just not sure that will work in a 2 hr film, but JMS is an extremely creative guy, so who knows? Would be neat to see an Oscar-worthy zombie film...but I don't know if 2 hrs is enough time to realize it....
