Blogger jailed in Anna Nicole Smith defamation suit

www.breitbart.com

A realtor who blogged about Anna Nicole Smith was jailed for contempt in a defamation case.
Experts say bloggers are increasingly the targets of such suits, which test the bounds of free speech.
The blogger didn't realize she was liable for her posts.
Suits against bloggers have doubled yearly since 2004 with $15 million in judgments.
These cases could have been avoided if they double-checked their sources.
"Defamation is defamation whether it is written on paper or a blog."

Who needs T and Cs when attorneys will do?

The blogger was alleged to have been part of a "conspiracy" that posted false information about the plaintiff, Smith's mother.

Flaming, "ad hominem" and other attacks may lead to more than regret and apologies.

They can lead to the courthouse, confiscation of your computer, and as with this woman, jail time.

Although defamation are the leading types of suits against bloggers, copyright infringement and invasion of privacy claims follow close behind.

Deny ignorance?
