So I'm slowly window shopping for land to build some cabins on and live off the grid and I occasionally come across land/cabins that have free gas such as this listing below:

How it is possible that these properties have free gas???

could it be free standing gas stove/fireplace?

Or

www.city-data.com...

I have an uncle who has this. Some property owners contracted with the local gas company to allow the company to tap the natural gas underneath said property in exchange for free, unlimited use of the tapped lines. In the grand scheme of things, I guess it's a crap deal because they are getting a bunch of your gas essentially for free, but, on the other hand, it's not like many people can tap the reserves themselves or anything.

I wonder if you could cut off the gas company when you buy 'your' (?) land that the gas is underneath or they'll send some mean men with guns if you pull the rug from under them by saying they can't extract the gas anymore

I wonder if there is dual ownership involved
