Red Alert: Did anti-Obama campaign contributions dictate which Chrysler dealers were shuttered?

don't see anything in your reply relevant to this thread. just the usual discounting of facts that are uncomplimentary to obama. try saying something relevant. try justifying this particular action to neutralize competition at all levels. supporters of republicans have as much rights to jobs as supporters of obama.

if George Bush had decided to close 'gas stations' when prices were real high, he would have been accused of being in bed with big oil even though his venture floundered. There would be no investigation just a branding of him as the Anti-Christ by Devil Nancy and her crew of misfits....

I liked the explanation that there are more GOP closing because there are more rich GOP. As stated in this article link

A more likely explanation is simply the fact that more Chrysler dealers in general are likely to be Republican contributors, which would mean more of the closed dealers would be seen to be GOP supporters than Democrat supporters: "My hypothesis is that Chrysler dealers, being small businessmen, are more likely to donate to Republicans than Democrats, for predictable reasons. Like any small businessmen, car dealers want lower taxes, a lower minimum wage, fewer regulations, etc."

and then we find that the Car Czar that was appointed is married to the former finance chairman for the DNC.

Maybe it's significant, maybe not, but a colleague here in the Examiner newsroom just reminded me that White House car czar Steven Rattner is married to Maureen White, the former national finance chairman of the Democratic National Committee. And let's not forget that before Rattner became a Wall Street mover and shaker, he was a New York Times reporter.

Seems that the Clintons ARE still in power.

However, there is nothing to see here so please move along. I mean, what are we going to do, ask the WH press secretary for some real answers?????

great article! here's a bit that adds to the discussion. It's about chicago-style politics. The delusional belief that obama rose through the chicago machine without participating in its political style is proving to be wrong:

It can happen because we are barking up the wrong tree when we accuse the Democrats of practicing socialism. Any Chicagoan recognizes what's going on as pure gangsterism - the application of power through the use blackmail, threats, and pure muscle and the devil take the Constitution, the rule of law, and simple fairness.

It can happen because we've elected a president who aggrandizes power unto himself while running roughshod over individual rights.

the article goes on to say this story is about to explode but so far stories never explode that impact obama negatively. ACORN for example is a huge scandal and there's talk but nothing comes of it. I am curious to see what happens with this.

How about the TRILLONS of dollars we just sank BACK into the economy based on the actions of our president? This pompous bastard last night at a dinner stated that his first 4 months are the best since FDR. There has been NO change, no transparency and nothing but spending. He should decide, since he is so technologically advanced with his crackberry, to decided to not travel and do his appearances with CISCO and his teleprompter. It would save millions a year just in security costs.

Let's see. 1 in 8 people have their homes foreclosed. Unemployment is rocketing as well as taxes. Ask the small business owner how his taxes increased so he needs to collect more so that 13 bucks in your paycheck actually meant nothing. He choose to take this economy on and there is no one to blame but his own buddies also and the american people for their credit greed and living beyond their means.


This is another example of if, and when, the government decides your company is not worthy that it can be abolished. We are one step closer to Chinese car imports folks...gone is the day of american steel. Dollar Store cars are coming......

And that's not the fault of anyone other than the American Auto Industry.

Dollar store cars sound great to me. I hate paying $27,000 for a car that looses 1/2 it's value literally the second you sign the papers.

The American Auto Industry did this to themselves.
If this were a foreign company, there'd be no sympathy. Look at DHL. Where were your bleeding hearts for them? Tens of thousands of Americans lost their jobs not too long ago, and now it's regarded as if it happened centuries in the past.

Just like most other things, the auto industry became another battle ground for right vs. left politics.

Bad business decisions led to the collapse.
It's been happening for a long time.
Before Bush.
Before Obama.

If you fail to recognize that, then i feel really sorry for you and your sheltered life.

I am not saying that they did not do this to themselves. They did. Along with the greed of people making 24k a year driving leased Hummers and other BA SUV's. Poor product, shotty quality control and unions were also contributing factors. the list goes on and on and on. Will people cry when the psot office closes its doors either?

However, this is about the government taking control and making decisions that affect 100's of thousands of people. This is about selective control of big business and taking away the free market. This administration is doing nothing but muscle flexing and spending.

This happened once before not to long ago and the auto maker paid back the loan within 4 years....

agree with you all the way on the auto industry. most of us lowly citizens knew the first loan/bailout to them would never be repaid and that these companies deserved to fail. they did it to themselves. it's how our system works. they should have gone into bankruptcy instead of soaking taxpayers for all those billions that are now truly lost. I think. I actually have lost track of the latest doubletalk on whether or not taxpayers will end up with anything at all other than more debt.

do you know what it means for the "government" to own these companies? i'm sure it means liability for debt but if there should ever be income, where does that go?

Well here's the list, we could just start looking the names of the owners up and checking their campaign contributions.

The other side of the data has yet to surface. How many other dealerships remain open that have republican owners?

interesting updat. someone called zero hedge is doing a rather exhaustive analysis of this situation doing all the math and algorithms. you can check it out at

they don't see that it is clearly negative toward republican donors and positive to obama donors because there are relatively few dem donors to analyze, but they did find something suggestive. they call it preliminary, called the "clinton effect". that is, donors to hillary's campaign were more apt to be spared. why you ask? only thing they came up with is that the car czar is married to the woman who was a national finance chair for the hillary clinton for president campaign. did she pass on a list of donors to hubby?

if you have to choose some to close and some to stay open, why not give preferential treatment to the good guys. I'm still not clear on why the Car Czar was the one to decide which dealers to close, or even insist on closing anybody since Chrysler itself wasn't keen on it.
