Thank you.

Sadly... and this was the point of this thread all along is that patriotism is not; as some would have it, a one way street that they have a monopoly on.

That a true patriot will understand that while their neighbor might have diametrically different political views than you do... that is alright... it does not in any way diminish their love of country... they just have a difference of opinion and that is all.

And it is the freedom to have a difference of opinion without some jackboot storm trooper kicking down your door because of it is why people serve.

As for protest... the same applies... the right wing and the left wing protester are both right because both, despite heated rhetoric from some love their country and do not want it to go down the wrong path. The debate is which is the wrong path... in my opinion it is extremism period... neither left or right extremism is healthy for the nation.

The fact I took down my American flag as a personal protest against what I felt were the wrong headed policies of the bush minor administration does not and I stress this, does not in any way diminish my patriotism... I also stood in protest groups against them in the lead up to the invasion of Iraq as well...

I felt that they were the wrong policies and it was my duty to protest them... as was the duty of others to rally in favor of them... even though I disagreed with them I am not nor have I ever been so foolish to think that my opinion is the only correct one.

What was wrong however were those who threw eggs at us and threatened us with violence for opposing the invasion.

Sorry for my off topic post earlier.I know this is an american thread and about remembering american troops but i will say i support the British troops 100% and the American troops 100% in these current conflicts. And i also remember the troops who have died through the centuries for noble causes. What i can't say is i support their actions in these current wars, maybe that makes me a bad person or unpatriotic.. but every fiber of my being is against these wars so i simply cant say i support their actions.I would be lying to myself. But i still *support* them if you can see what i mean.I know i'll get flamed for saying that.I only know three people who are in Afghanistan right now

You are more than welcome. And again you have my heartfelt graditude and respect for your service to this country.

If only everyone could understand that to disagree with your government does not in any way mean that you are not patriotic, and that to thank, honor and respect those who serve their country does not mean that you agree with unjust wars.
