EDIT : Title should read "Hardly world shattering, yet real conspiracy! Eurovision is exposed as a scam and the BBC are trying to cover it up""

Not really sure if this is the right place for this thread, but hear me out here as there is a genuine (albeit hardly earth shattering) conspiracy and coverup going on right now!

So last weeks Eurovision song contest
en.wikipedia.org...
happened and Norway won.
Yet quite a few people in the UK at least voted via the phone-in system for other countries awful pop songs, only to have their votes counted for Norway anyway!
A friend of mine who actually cares about the contest (no idea why, but hey) set up a facebook group The now unavailable group to try and get some answers from the bbc about the obvious rigging of the phone vote and had some good success.
He had interviews from not only the local press but also the Guardian newspaper and some television channels. It looked like his campaign was gathering some momentum.
late last night/early this morning the BBC responded to the group's creator.
Several minutes later his whole group was "unavailable" and a lot of his campaign postings on other parts of facebook had vanished without trace.

Now personally I couldn't care less about the eurovision contest and figured it was rigged for years anyway.
BUT ... The phone vote is not free and the BBC are making people believe they are paying per vote to actually influence the outcome of the contest, While the outcome is likely pre-determined and they are pocketing the cash!
And why are facebook so determined to silence him?
What's funny is the BBC was in deep water over phony phone contests last year also.
The campaign's creator has been met with a wall of silence about why the group is suspended from both facebook and the BBC.
I'm going to see him later so I'll update the thread if anyone's interested

I always thought Eurovision was rigged way before the phone in votes.
I think it's also bizarre how Israel can enter the contest and yet can't win because they aren't part of Europe?

(BTW I thought the 2 girls from Israel rocked. Very talented ladies.)

deffinitelly not a revelation but good that its getting exposed.

the show always has been a complete fraud, the fact they have phone lines now is sickening, as eurovision has always been a blatent fix, so much so that even wogan has been known tro joke about it.

this year i think the uk pulled the ultimate move to expose it, by having one of their top song writers write the song, which for a change was actualy pretty good! yet came forth, with norway winning with some really bad pop music whioch sounded like something you woudl have heard about 1993 in the uk.

sad i know, but i always keep an eye on eurovision, its dam bad, but its the biggest yearly farce in europe. uk never wins as we are friends with america, and backed them up in afganistan / iraq.. simple as that.

It's the coverup that's bugging me more than the fact it's fixed. It's always been a bit of a joke

Uuuh, kind of embarrassing to admit, ehe, especially as an old metal head, but when I saw the first semi-finals (I was at a friends place and he had to watch, besides, it was all I saw of Eurovision, OK!?!?) when Israel got through, the male host said;

"The most politically correct [something]; Israel!"

I can't remember if he said "song", "country" or "contender", but I am just as puzzeled about what he ment with that.

Anyone else saw that?

And to stay on topic; of course it is rigged. It's crap.

Hardly world shattering, yet real conspiracy!

Is this a Freudian admission that the world shattering conspiracies talked about here are merely frauds and entertainment schemes?

Heh, more a case of easily verifiable

As much as I'd like to read the minutes of the bilderberg meetings, it would take a lot of effort and probably result in me breaking a few laws and ending up in jail. So for all we know they could just be playing a giant pokemon tournament on the nintendo DS in there.

This however is more "conspiracy lite". Simple, easy to see what's going on and easy to prove, It also has all the elements of a decent meaty conspiracy!
well .. err .. it has Isreal anyway and they seem to get dragged into all the good ones

Maybe Terry Wogan is a freemason? or Graham Norton is part of a secret society of homosexual lizard people from a parallel earth?
The fact is that Facebook were very quick and very thorough at removing all trace of this group to silence the message. Which is kind of strange, and that's why I posted it. The Eurovision is a bit of joke really so it's odd that they are willing to start a cover up to defend it...

Yeah that is on the nose.

So whether people voted for Norway or not, their votes went to Norway anyway?
How many hundreds of thousands dollars did they make from this scam??
I'd ask for a refund.

Not all the votes, but some of them.
We asked a load of people we know who they voted for and what happened.
Those who voted for the British entry said their votes went through just fine.
The votes that counted for Norway were mainly people in the UK voting for other countries (my friend tried voting for Greece 8 times).
From what I can tell anyway, the info was on the FB group that got shut down. Luckily my pal has a backup with all the data etc on it and I'm going to see him once I can get off work.

Bullocks there isn't any rigging going on. Your friend is just pissed that Norway won.
disclaimer: I hate the eurovision, only good thing ever to come out of it was riverdance

I thought this year though the phone votes only counted for %50 of the votes from a country, the other half was decided by a special judging panel. Still either way it is never fair, but then really at the end of the day who really cares.

Ah right. Gotcha.
Yeah, that's pretty aggravating.
Look forward to what you find from your friend.

www.eurovision.tv...

Breaking news! During a meeting in Moscow, the EBU Reference Group of the Eurovision Song Contest decided to introduce a voting model of a mix between televoting and jury votes in the 2009 Final. No change will be made in the voting during the Semi-Finals of the Eurovision Song Contest. The outcome was the result of lengthy considerations and detailed discussion on a wide variety of models. Details on the balance between jury and televoting outcome are still to be determined in the months to come.

So this is probably where your friends concern is at. The phone vote wasnt rigged but the panel could of been.

Nope
When you phoned in your vote for one country, the answer machine message would tell you something like
"thank you for voting for Norway"
His problem is twofold.
Firstly that the BBC are basically scamming people, furthering a weird agenda to help Norway (i know that makes no sense, unless they had reached some kind of agreement beforehand)
and Secondly that facebook were so quick to shut him down. Despite not violating any of their ToS.
We only know that it happened in the UK and probably didnt impact the final vote much, but would be interested to hear if any other Europeans have had a similar problem.

Coverup is over

After letting facebook know that their removal of the group and related topics were being shown to the press and here on ATS they re-instated the group, with only some other minor things left off.
A small victory for the people. But a Victory nonetheless

Just remains to be seen if we can get the BBC to admit to any wrongdoings now..
