Would'nt it be nice if we can see on ATS the count of people who are online? We already see in the profiles if the member is onilne or offline.

Hi sunny,

You can see the number and names of members who are online at the bottom of the "board" page.

Sunny, do keep in mind that the list has about a 10 minute lag.

Which is to say that it will still show logged off members as logged on for a little while after they have left the site. So double checking on their mini profile is always the best way to make sure.

I have yet to come across a site which did not have bots. You need them to operate even a site with 500 total active members let alone this site.

We stopped tracking that because there were just so many. About a year ago when we gave-up, guests would be an average of 5x to 8x the number of members logged-in... and these were not bots, since we were only tracking non-member users that accepted cookies.

We're not tracking thread-views.

The server-strain of adding a view for each-and-every load of a thread was becoming problematic. Not to mention that, due to the high-number of bots and spiders on ATS at all times, the number never really reflected the quantity of people looking at a thread.

Thanks I always wondering why that feature disappeared. I kind of watched that figure to see if any of the threads I posted would tank. It seemed to me at the time a fairly good indicator if a thread I posted to would sink into the Abyss or fly for a bit.

Oh well thanks for answering and solving another ATS mystery for us.

Yep. A 16-CPU mega-fast hard-drive monster server with 8gigs of RAM.

However, there are limits to any hardware... and we're currently looking at the hard-costs of some additional upgrades.
