Night Hag? Weird Dream Nonetheless

oh my gosh... I believe I have had the "night hag experience."

I dreamed I was in a bar, or some kind of club, either after hours or before hours, I don't remember which and its doesn't really matter, but anyway. This old, shadow-hag figure appears out of nowhere, and it is around this point where I am aware that I'm dreaming, but I do not wake up. She, for lack of a better word, "teleports" every 5 feet closer and closer to me. I begin breathing VERY heavily and VERY quickly, which I am aware of, but I cannot wake up for the life of me. Around this time my roommate shakes me yelling my name, concerned over my "panting" that was going on. IT was a very strange and incredibly scary experience, but it has not happened again. This took place last quarter at my university and since then, as I have said, nothing similar, but it still weirds me out every time i think about it. Is this type of experience normal for "night hag" experiences? and is there any place that anybody can direct me to that would contain more information? I'm curious to know more about this.

I have had that experience a few times too. Only not in dreams, but in reality. I am fully concious and aware of a gnarling "night hag" inching closer to my bed from the shadows. My heavy breathing, and acute paralyzation I am aware of also, and makes for quite a frightening experience. Only after further observation did I realize it is only my Mother in law snooping around the room trying to steal my cigarettes !!!

In all seriousness I'm happy for you that it is'nt a re occuring problem. Dreams are often enigmatic and sometimes too real. Our bodies react unconciously with emotions, the paralyzation thing is a sleep mechanism to prevent us from injuring ourselves or spouses.

I've never heard of the night hag but I had my first ever zombie killer dream last night. Boy was it creepy. It was in a huge, rambling mall and no matter how I tried to escape and help other people escape with me, there was no way out and the zombie kept on coming. Like the terminator. We killed it several times but it kept on coming back to life. I was never so glad to wake up.

I've never ever dreamed anything like that before. Weird.

The "night hag" is sleep paralysis. You wake up but your body can't move and it feels like something is sitting on your chest because it's hard to breath. Because of the feeling on the chest a witch forms that appears to be sitting there and the person shakes themselves to wake up properly and then she disappears.

Hey, thanks for clearing that up. I've never heard of it. Now that I know what it is I feel really sorry for anyone who goes through that. Nightmares are bad enough.

It begs the question, what did people see in those experiences before witches were ever around?

Actually it IS the "Night Hag" aka the "Old Hag" incident. Most cases have the victim waking up to find they are not alone in the room. They are paralyzed (sleep paralysis) and a figure emerges from a shadowy corner or hell, even the wall.

Eventually she climbs up ontop of you, sometimes she'll sit on your chest, other times she's been known to straddle and choke, aka the rape choke.

Also - sometimes she has a helper, and its a shadow person. The shadow person is reported to be the one doing the holding while the hag gets closer and closer.

There are more examples of the "old Hag" experience w/o witches. its goes back very far into history actually. its not a recent trend.

hahah most likely. I read about that sleep paralysis associated with a "hag" creature or whatever so I was confused, because I dreamed about a "hag" like creature, but still could wake up or move and was breathing really heavily and really deeply lol. so I was just wondering about that lol Thanks for the clarification on this!

A friend of mine dreamt of the 'night hag' many times over the period of a few weeks. This is going back 8-9 years. The recurring dream was different in that the hag actually took him by the head and spoke to him in tongues. The usual 'sleep paralysis' symptoms were absent from his experiences.
