Interesting study on a possible Israeli Strike on Iran’s Nuclear Development Facilities

A very interesting and documented study has been released by the CSIS ( Center for Strategic & International Studies) on a Possible Israeli Strike on Iran’s Nuclear Development Facilities.

According to this study,

A military strike by Israel against Iranian Nuclear Facilities is possible and the optimum route would be along the Syrian-Turkish border then over a small portion of Iraq then into Iran, and back the same route. However, the number of aircraft required, refueling along the way and getting to the targets without being detected or intercepted would be complex and high risk and would lack any assurances that the overall mission will have a high success rate.

This study states also the targets Israel should destroy in order to meet its goals, and the possible price that Iran’s neighbors would have to pay for these strikes …
Overall, this study states that the best strategy Israel should adopt would be … to change its mind, and begin to manage the fact that Iran will be soon or later, a nuclear power.
This means betting on dissuasion in place of deterrence.

A nuclear Iran will be a nightmare for everyone in the Middle East, not just Israel. I also think that one of the unforeseen consequences of Iran developing a nuclear weapon will be to bolster relations between Israel and other pro-Western Arab countries, which ironically may help with the peace protest.

Already we're seeing a lot of enthusiasm from countries like Jordan and Egypt to get the Palestinian issue resolved once and for all, and a renewed willingness to co-operate with Israel in achieving this.

Also don't forget we have elections coming up in Iran and Lebanon in the next couple of months, which could change everything.
