One of the things that goes unspoken is how Israel was created, and who, by and large, populated it.
Having spent considerable time in the Middle East, I have some understanding of the Arab culture. It is significantly different from the culture in Israel today.
Going back several thousand years, the Israeli and Arab cultures were very similar, in fact, very similar to the Arab culture today.
Modern Israel, on the other hand, was resettled by people, who for the most part, came from Europe, and a European culture.
Today, the culture of Israel is so different that it causes cultural warfare, when placed in the Middle East.
The old USSR knew this, when they voted for the creation of the state of Israel in the current location. They understood very well that the clashing cultures would create a flash point, resulting in the USSR's entry into the political and eco-geographical arena in the Middle East. It is culture, as much as religion, that fuel the hatred today. Perhaps if the superpowers had managed to stay out of the region, they would have been forced to work out their problems on an equal footing. However, the proxy US military Israeli regime has basically overpowered the Arab regimes. The 6-day war was an example of how lop-sided the military scales are. Today, Iran is trying to balance those scales, which of course, creates additional problems, because, again, the superpowers (no, the cold war never REALLY ended) have forced themselves into this struggle.
That is the cultural and political landscape. It explains part of the problem. However, in addition to that, there is the religious issue, which continues to add fuel to the fire.
I don't see how this can ever be solved peacefully, quite honestly. Things have gone way too far for that. Since ISrael has vowed "Never Again", the thought of a negotiated peace is just not in the Israeli psyche. True, some Israelis do want peace, but others have essentially the same attitude as that expressed by Iran, namely nothing less than the destruction of the "other side". It is sad, but true. To believe that Israel is somehow "more correct" than the Arabs just shows the bias of the person making that statement. Nothing less than the total subjugation of the other side will be sufficient.

Actually i agree with you. I find it very dumb that a lot of Israelis do not understand that they are a part of Middle East, with its cultural,social and diplomatic ties. And other countries in the Middle East consider Israel a temporary foreign body ,kind of Crusade 2. Both sides would like different neighbours - but naturally it is not possible. And this lack of understanding with underlying religious/ historical problems ,with a lot of blood spilled, is going to make this region a hot spot for a long time. Even if peace would be signed and independent Palestine would appear.
Also i think that you are correct in description of why Stalin supported Israel in the beginning. Hot spots could be very helpful sometimes. Glad he died before using this one, just as he used Korea. Not that it made the area more peaceful.

Yes, it's funny, when someone is made president, the first thing he or she does is continue full support of Israel, never mind what they do to their neighbors. Who are the real terrorists here, people? I know, your saviour is a Jew, but a Jew is not necessarily an Israeli, and all Israelis are not Jews. You have to look past the propaganda, even if it comes from a pastor, for America's support of terrorism is going to come back to haunt us in the future, mark my words. We need to do something here, like reinstate the original 13 amendment....

Heres the real story out of all the countries in the world Israel was the only country to open its borders to darfur refugees.So many showed up that eventually they had to discontinue this policy.But in the mean time there is a huge population there and one of the people there decided to start an out reach and support center. Do you even realize how ridiculous this claim is? Sudan said Israel is funneling weapons through France into chad. And the French forces are distributing and training the rebels come on! Stay off the jihad websites and try to find some real sources for a change.

Oh and by the way France and Isreal well they really dont get along all that well And those weapons they were talking about it aid most internbational countries will ship relief aid to chad since that is where many people from darfur has fled to.

Strange , the Arab Janjaweed militia murder and rape the people of Darfur and Gadhafi blames Israel. Al Queda murders thousands of Americans on 9-11 and the Arabs claim it was Mossad. One of my favorite business books is "Getting to Yes" by Fisher and Urey. They talk about how to get two opposing sides to the table, and how to get a Win-Win agreement.
The key to it is very simple- Discuss common INTERESTS, not POSITIONS.
As long as the two sides stick by their positions, and not interests, nothing will ever come about, as a result of negotiation.
The authors use the example of 2 people who sit down in a room. One gets up and opens the window, then sits down. The second person then gets up and closes the window. This back and forth continues, until they start shouting at each other. A third person comes up. and stops the scuffle. Then he asks the first person WHY he wants the window open. He replies that he wants fresh air. The arbitrator then asks the second person why he wants the window closed. He replies that he doesn't want a draft.
The arbitrator then gets up, goes to the adjoining room, and opens the window, bringing in fresh air, without causing a direct draft on the second person.
The "window open" and "window closed" are positions, obviously irreconcilable . However, the solution results in both parties INTERESTS being satisfied, without any conflict.
What is needed is a wise arbitrator that can find a way to satisfy both Israel's and the Arab's interests, without either being in conflict.
So far, no party, including the US, has been able to do that.
Perhaps they should read "getting to Yes".
Since you are in Israel, perhaps you can tell someone in government about the book? It couldn't hurt, could it?

With the credibility of zionists, how can anyone possibly accept your statements regarding Sudan. Which countries has Sudan invaded or spied on? None.

My preference would be to get all the arab politicians plus the iranians into one conference centre and then show them a series of films beginning with those of palestine pre-israel. Then continue showing how the israelis have turned the palestinian desert into highly productive land. Next would come the rabid statements from all the arab states, followed by all the attacks on israel, all of which were illegal in international law.

Thereafter would come the details of every attempt to create lasting peace; how arafat repeatedly failed to take opportunities for peace; all the terrorist activities; and finally bringing in the israeli exasperation that has lead to greater division and military actions that are so deplored around the world. I cannot think of any other nation that would have put up with so much hassle and outright displays of enmity. The Arabs and Iranians need to be forcibly reminded about who started all the fighting; who declared that they would wipe who off the face of the Earth; that responsibility for peace lies first with all the aggressors.

The Isralis are not blameless; but they had no intention of attacking any neighbour when they settled there. The Arabs have brought all the troubles upon themselves, apart from the Palestinian Arabs who were used as an excuse for every attack. Without the interference from all the Arab states it is possible to imagine an Israel where the Palestinians and Israelis live in peace and where the former benefit from the latter. But that is now impossible. Two states are the only sensible solution.

This is just so friggin' outrageous.

Sudan's Muslim regime having the Janjaweed mercenaries burn the countryside, destroy villages, rape, torture, and causing the death of approaching half a million people, mostly children - cannot be scandalized beyond the monstrous genocide that it is. One also cannot downplay the scandalously criminal organization calling itself the UN sanctioning by ignoring it for years.

There is a government in Sudan ordering the systematic mass murders of hundreds of thousands of children. I notice no threads created about their "Insane Brutality."

And you're claiming Israel, the one country in the region allowing in Darfur refugees, is somehow complicit. Beyond commenting on.

Yep, depressing isn't it?

200,000 - 400,000 dead to date.
80 infants dying of malnutrition per day.
2,000,000 displaced.

Rape, mass graves, homelessness, starvation, genocide, torture, the list goes on. The real thing. All sanctioned by the Sudanese government, while the UN and the African Union turn a blind eye.

Such a waste, such injustice, it makes me despair of humanity.
