A couple of weeks ago, i heard on a morning radio show that Texas governor Rick Perry wants to seceed from the Union, and become independent of the U.S (sorry if i spelled seceed wrong )

He claimed that if the current situation in America got any worse they would have a vote to leave the Union, and that infact it could be done by the governor without voter approval if necessary.

Is this true? Has anyone else heard anything like this? You'd think something like that would be all over the news. I found it especially odd because ive heard for a few years now that NAFTA, is building a Trans Texas Corridor to extend from Mexico to the US, and ending in Canada. Supposedly this is a plan aimed at having open boarders for the North American Union, and the NWO. The TTC is an expressway that will be a major trade route, but can be used by the public with hefty tolls. What would it mean for Texas not to be a State anymore?

He did say something about secession. I believe he said that Texas could but the fact is we can not.

: Doesn't the Texas Constitution reserve the right of Texas to secede?

A: No such provision is found in the current Texas Constitution[1](adopted in 1876) or the terms of annexation.[2] However, it does state (in Article 1, Section 1) that "Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States..." (note that it does not state "...subject to the President of the United States..." or "...subject to the Congress of the United States..." or "...subject to the collective will of one or more of the other States...")

Even if it were true that Texas (my state) could, We would not. Rick perry is just talking out of his rear end. For the recored alot of people here in Texas are not crazy about the man and nobody that I know of in Texas wants to or even supports seccesion.

I haven't heard anymore news about it lately. The last I heard on CNN was that Texas was still talking about breaking from the union put a vote hasn't taken place.

That is alright. When in doubt you can always do an ATS search. The search bar is in the top right corner of the page.

Just type in whatever your thread might be about and it will bring up any similar threads.

I havent heard any serious talk of it but it wouldn't be a bad thing to do in the long run. We'd be able to start fresh with a new currency and sell oil to the US. We'd be better off tax wise and wouldn't have to worry about that 7 or 8 trillion dollars in interest that the US will be trying to pay to the fed over the next few decades.

The Republic of Texas.

I like it.

He was interviewed today (Sat May 16) on Fox News. I didn't get to watch it, but my brother called to tell me, because I have been following this for awhile. 30 other states are discussing similar legislation with Oklahoma and New Mexico having already passed theirs.

Well, badger...

Love him or hate him, Keith Olbermann had a rather logical take on the possibility....

I'm not advocating any side on the issue, just thinking....

Joining the Union was always voluntary and withdrawal are equally lawful.

I knew a few states declared sovereignty. My assumption was fear of Obama’s backdoor gun laws and mandatory servitude (HB1388)

I live in Washington State and recently spoke to my girl’s school and they are, in fact required to do community service next year. I am opposed to all of this New Foundation stuff.

I want Washington to Secede; as well but also worry about the complications. I think of the collapse of the Soviet Union. No one expected that, what makes us think it cant happen here.

Well, that's interesting but I don't think it will work quite the way he thinks.
Texas has the 15th largest economy in the world. We don't need to run the rest of the planet like the US seems to think it needs to do so all of those taxes won't be so wasted. Oh yeah, we pay federal taxes too. The second most populated state in the union does pay more than its fair share.

Olberman seems to make a lot of sports teams, schools, Nasa and immigration but he seems more bitter and spiteful than logical.

We'd be better off in the long run. We'd just have to worry about the socialists in the US coming to Texas to get decent medical care. It would cost you quite a bit because the US dollar exchange to Texas dollar would be prohibitive.

Lets not forget that the Texas produces about a third of the fuel and two thirds of ancillary petroleum products in the US. We've also got a big ole chunk of the oil reserves in the gulf.

We can pretty much get along without Washington DC misusing all of our federal taxes and "spreading the wealth" to other states.

Maybe Ron Paul would be our first President.

See you in another thread.
