Europe’s workers are getting ever more riled about the slumping economies and job losses around the continent. There were big rallies in Madrid and Bucharest on thursday. Today it is Brussels’ turn, and on Saturday it will be Berlin.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators turned up in Madrid, and from all over Europe in a gesture of pan-European trade unionism, and solidarity with Spanish workers, whose construction-dependent economy has been particularly badly-hit by the recession.

yesterday there was a strike in Greece. all flights were cancelled.

today we had a really bad news coming from France and Germany about its recession numbers.

there is a huge strike in Croatia.

there are protests in Poland due major yards closing down by EU order

there are strikes in Turkey.

medical stuff strike in Portugal.

pernament tensions in Russia.

in Luxemburg protesters attacked the company offices of biggest world steal producers - ArcelorMittal

road blockades in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, due to the protests

and that is only from last 3-4 days. and only the ones which were in MSM. how many others protests we have in EU? for sure much more.

Well for the last 3 hours literally thousands of people have been streaming past the front of my place in Brussels, had no idea what its about but there seems to be lots of unions and pro socialist banners. I wouldnt say its anything out of the ordinary though. Noisy buggers woke me up with their fireworks too.

the people protesting in Europe are most typically Socialist/Communist/Anarchist pro-Union etc..

They are upset that a market can exist where they loose their jobs.. basically very angry that the hand which feeds them isn't feeding them often enough.. I am afraid Europe may be progressively becoming even more Socialist than they already are..

I am the last to protect socialism. trust me. but I think it is more than just being angry cause others still have something. but when you see the british parliamentarians buying the second houses for public money just few meters from the ones they own already you are really pissed. and the problem is that taxes are stolen. I am not poor and I am not socialist but I have a company and I am pissed as well.

i agree that the Brits are pissed about things other than jobs disappearing.. and rightly so, the Brits have more to complain about than anyone else in the World right now. What with their ever increasingly intrusive government, mass political corruption, etc..

But it doesn't change the fact that these protest across mainland Europe are sponsored by Communist political parties and Socialist Unions and the undereducated "Anarchist".

That is weird? A public forum where guest ask MP's questions.. two regarding a woman to pay back 72k pounds and one to a gentleman who used 800 pounds a month on food. The two MP's defend themselves and say they did nothing wrong while the audience boos and calls them out.

I expect that it's not allowed to British visitors because it's a clip from Question Time last night, which is BBC copyright material.

British people can access it via iPlayer instead.

From what ive seen i would seriously doubt the majority of the protestors here would know what socialism is, true its heavily sponsored by certain organisations, but its just a colourful banner to stand behind while drinking beer. Certainly thats an unfair statement, but it is more of a day out to a lot of these people, they are given a pretty coloured poncho to wear and have a good day. The people i saw today were enjoying themselves, obviously they still are from the sounds of crackers still ringing out.

Its people like you that really get my goat! these people that are demonstrating are demonstrating because the state is slowly taking everything away that they have lived for.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been made unemployed over the last 6 months and as more and more people feel like their being treated like crap by the system the more protests there will be.

Its not about causing trouble or pure anarchy its about causing change! the more demonstrations that take place the more the world will be aware of the current situation.

I read the twitter report form The Times online during the London Protests and they were 100% censored the biggest load of ******* I have ever come across, trying to make out that the people who were demonstrating were anarchists out to cause trouble no matter what event - it was disgusting to read just like your quip above, have compassion for the people losing their jobs, their home, their dignity, all for the love of Money and Greed!

hi..this is the biggest story at the moment in england and could yet get a LOT bigger..a big newspaper has been leaked information regarding expenses claimed by politicians..and they are keeping everyone (the politicians) on their toes by releasing just a few names every day...no one knows who will be in the spot light next..

it turns out loads of politicians have been claiming thousands and thousands for things that they really shouldnt...cleaners...tennis courts...mortgages that have long been paid off...homes..sisters homes......even moat cleaning.

the politicians in this tv programme are just trying to save their jobs and most are claiming they have done nothing wrong.

there are plans by a newspaper to bring these people before a court..but its affecting a lot of politicians and the public are furious..

although im more surprised that people are surprised..

WHAT? Europe has some of the most Socialist governments in the World.. it's a steep Recession/Depression .. jobs are going to be lost, spending is gong to be cut. These people are not mad the Governments took things away from them, they are mad the Government let them fall victim to the processes of Capitalism? People loosing jobs? Oh my, well that just won't do.. we should have the State employ us all! And make it impossible to be fired, and while we are at it, 100% guaranteed comfortable retirement! hey, let's add short work weeks, extended vacations, and State run health care!

These people are 2yr olds who dropped their cookie on the floor and want the Nanny State to give them a new, better one.

The groups at the protest where publicly advertising themselves before and after, so it should not be hard to figure who was there? Anti-Capitalist groups where there, Capitalist where there, but the largest groups where Climate Change .. which honestly I fail to see wtf climate change had to do with the G20, but hey, when your undereducated and you fall victim to propaganda I suppose anything makes sense.

Yeah, not very surprising.. still I really do hope the British make a massive deal out of this and, hopefully, force every last one of them to resign..

I don't know what you guys can do to "Lords" who are found to be corrupt as well.. your political system is sometimes confusing to me.

well, having the governments as they are you are becoming the anarchist.
the problem is that the parties in opposition are exactly the same.

how can you not get angry when your own government is destroying your company or company you work for. this people on the streets are fighting for the "rich" employers in many cases.

just a small update:

there was 50 000 in Madrid
40 000 in Brussels

this weekend it will hit Berlin and Czech Republic

just presented stats from Paris. the protesters number has doubled when compared to the same period last year. there was almost 1 milion on the streets of Paris in first 4 months this year. 92 policman were wounded. 1200 of protesters were arested.

over 100 000 people protesting in Berlin. similar marches all over whole Europe.

workers in FIAT in Italy on strike alert and protesting.
