I've been researching my family for quite some time. I've now taken up researching my husband's family. My father is doing my step-mom's family.

Let me tell you, that doing another person's family has opened my eyes WIDE to the fact that some of us have had our ancestry intentionally obscured.

My step-mom's is EASY. I have several lines of my husband's family back to the 1700's with ease in a couple of months.

My direct line I've been working on both of them for about 15 years now and cannot get back past when the landed here. And even then much of their childhood is obscured or "lost."

All of the Irish records were burnt or destroyed for a hundred years of records - even if I could get back to confirm parents, their records, and their parents, their grandparent, and their great grandparents records were all destoryed too. One set by fire, the other set by government decree.

My male ancestors on both sides appear to have been Home Children. The one's information was sent back to the UK and destroyed when it got there. The ship he came on is unlisted. The Catholic Church confirmed at one point when they were gonig to do proactive disclosure that they had our records - then they closed the program and even begging hasn't opened them up.

Some people have gone to great lengths to destroy the possibility of people in the "New World" ever finding out anything about their families.

One act is a coincidence. Two is an oddity. I've gotten to the point of it being WAY beyond accident or coincidence. The level of information suppression is unfathomable.

There was and continues to be a consistent effort to obscure the family lines of literally millions of North Americans and Austrialians. 1 in 10 Canadians is descended from a Home Child. Access to their records is a travesty even when you can find an organization that will give you some information.

More than a hundred years later, it is STILL considered dangerous in some way for some of us to know where and who we came from, and how they ended up here.

Its a conspiracy, and it is an old one that is obviously ongoing. What its purpose is is the question I have.

my granmother with her other siblings were all from rosscarbey, in county cork who owned a farm and i found out that Micheal Collins who created easter rising was from the small town of rosscarbey, i found t difficult myself to find my past, however i have heard alot about the celts of how they fought against the romans and were defeated, i wonder possibly that if the irish all around the world found out their heritage then that would mess the whole world up because Ireland it seems is a core example of peace within the western world.

A whole bunch of people who claim to be spanish and french and portugese all over the world are actually Irish.

I just took a stab at cracking my nut on a completely different tack I'd never tried before about a step-brother of my first immigrant ancestor that's a real problem. Only reason we even know about him is interviewing 100 year old ladies 20 years ago who remembered meeting him and he was a merchant marine.

Turns out that.....take a guess now.....the main registers for his service in the merchant marine.............were destroyed. The ones before are around. The ones after are around. Just the main series is gone.

Seeing a pattern here?
