Best graphics card for games

hey lately ive been looking at the gtx 295 , 285 and the ATI 4870 i think thats what it is the HD one.

Ive read lots of reviews but there is so much technical jargon that i cant really make heads or tails of it.

I want a video card that i can max out my levels on for wow, call of duty 4 etc etc and be able to do the same on new games coming bout......ill spend between 100 and 450

So im curious if anyone has any suggestions for a video card out there that can do this, doesnt have to be the same brand as these two, just getting an idea about the pros and cons of thse and maybe some suggestions for other ones.

I am using PCI E just so you know, any help would be appreciated!

I'm a Die hard Nvidia fan but I will admit ATI makes some pretty good cards.

I like the fact the Nvidia is a little quicker with their newer drivers releases than ATI, But that is just my opinion. I'm sure there is somebody out there who will say the complete opposite.

my 9800GTX+ would max out WoW without a flinch, and COD4 is no question, 60FPS @ max settings.

lol....

if those are the only kind of games you play a 295GTX is OVERKILL.

focus more on games like FEAR2 and Crysis/Warhead, MSFS, Assassins creed(pretty graphically intense), you need some games that will actually phase the power of a 285/295GTX(most recommended I'd suggest 285.)

If you really want a whopping GFX card just go for the 285, it'll handle anything you can throw at it.

Downfall with the 200 series so far is they can't be overclocked well due to their drivers.

like i said 285GTX is all you will need to have a substantial gaming PC(given you have a good CPU and good RAM).

If you really want to make sure just spend the extra 100$ or so on the 295.

Also, hopefully you know you need PCI-E 16X for the GFX cards. they do not come in AGP.

Radeon 4870, Radeon 4870, GTX 260 and GTX 275, are all fantastic cards. They can all max out pretty much everything right now.

Is this for a new system or an existing one? I ask because it's pointless to put an awesome video card in a slow computer, and also their can be compatibility issues sometimes.

Another card looking in to is the Radeon 4770. It can max out Assassins Creed, World in Conflict, F.E.A.R 2, Call of Duty 4 / 5, World of Warcraft, all at 1280x1024 4xAA 16xAF with no problems, as well as most other new games on high settings with medium resolutions. It's dirt cheap too, only $100 and doesn't need a powerful power supply either - so that's worth looking into. If you need better linux support maybe go for 9800GT. However these are midrange cards and will probably begin to fall behind early next year.

I recently purchased 2x 9800GTX+ cards running in SLI and they rock running CoD4 and CoD-WAW, WoW, Crysis, Fallout3, etc..but a single GTX 285 will demolish 2 9800GTX+ cards.

I am a fan of nVidia as well as EVGA since they have an awesome customer service department.
