The rate of advancement in nanotech = imminent disclosure?

The ability of the government to hide information may be coming to a close thanks to nanotech. One example is this robotic fly.. yes crude but only the beginning.



This is not a large post, more of a topic for discussion. For example, if in the near future we can build a rice sized centipede, perhaps powered by a grain of nuclear material. A device such as this could easily make it's way into area51 or other secret facilities, document the facility and leave. The only way to counter the surge of nanotech based spying (ETA 10-15yrs?) would be for secret installations to be moved off world, even so the devices could find a way to hitch a ride. I believe this is yet one more cog in the wheel of disclosure..

Who is "we"?

And if we could build/have access to something like this I could think of better places to try and get to where information would be more.....accessable and locatable. Going to area 51 and hunting for a way in, let alone finding something would be much more difficult than say...the white house or nasa.

Yeah......so.........How many scientists spending money on nanotechnology want to use it on flying into Area 51's sheep's bums?

Nanotechnology is better used repairing vital organs and used for health. =)

It won't be long before we get 'viruses' from nanobots that drift through the air.

This would be great in controlling the population.

Some futuristic nanobots might even be designed to turn the Earth into a giant ball of ...something because they'll be designed like viruses. They'll be released to process (materials) reproduce, process, reproduce.

Certainly it would depend on the natural materials they would need to reproduce. What safeguards will there be if the advanced types of nanobots start multiplying out of control?

They might and could be used to help people but I doubt the Powers That Be are interested in actually healing people.

Also to cost inefficient.

Just do what they do best, paint a bad scenario throw a white veil over it and say they're doing the right thing mean whilst there is a deadly offspring of fluorides in your double cheeseburger =D

It could be a great technology, but until humanity comes out of the phase of, "how can I kill that man over there", to "How can I help that man", stage we're fkd.

We have to transition out of religion, resources, rights, anything with an R, in it pretty much, not saying get rid of rights, but improve them

It's tough, we either we'll make it or we won;t nano technology, seems like a good defining moment, although if I get cancer I hope nanotechonolgy will help me, not be the one to put it there.

Complexity Theory and non-linear systems are utterly counter to directed Conspiracy Theories - especially over long periods of time. The longer and more over-reaching the conspiracy, the less likelihood it has of being true. This is because complex systems cannot be controlled, but only managed. Interacted with and reacted to. The longer one interacts with a complex system, the greater the chance of coming across a trend which yields unpredicted results.

So in that regard, you're absolutely right. The advent of nanotechnology will add another layer of complexity onto an already highly complex system and make any conspiracies just that much harder to hide.

What's being described is not nano-technology insomuch as it's micro-technology. Nano-tech is when you start getting down to the manipulation of molecules. For instance, lacing Obama's Q-Tips with nano-machines which (when the Q-Tip is used) burrow into the inner-ear and attach themselves to the nerves which connect the ear-drum to the brain. Such machines would then record the nerve activity and record it - or perhaps transmit it. The nerve activation logs could then be reconstructed into an audio buffer and transmitted to a speaker.

We currently have a very good basic ability to create micro-tech, however the true nanotech revolution will not come until we can create molecular assemblers. Between Genomics, Tissue Engineering, AI, Robotics, and Nanotech - Nanotech is likely the furthest away from having a viable solution. That being said, we already know of a currently working and efficient nano-assembler. It's the same mechanism by which DNA is replicated by enzymes. For instance, Ribosomes which follow directions lain out by messenger RNA to construct proteins.

Advances in genomics and genetics will lead ultimately to nano-assemblers, and such work is already being started. In addition, we have technologies such as DNA/RNA origami which may allow for the "growing" of complex 3D structures such as microprocessors which can be used in computers.
