I have a few thoughts about time travel and am curious of your thoughts. IF and that is a big IF we develop the capability for time travel it will likely mean that we will all live again in the future. I envision a post 'singularity' future of immense technology that gives us virtual existence and time travel. In this future, family will be granted the right to go back in time and retrieve other family members before their death via a download of their consciousness. This could even be happening right now without us even knowing! Loved ones we have lost may already be retrieved and downloaded into a virtual reality some 2000yrs from now. When we die, that light we are compelled to go into may be our consciousness being retrieved by future relatives. It gives me hope to think maybe those who have been lost are not truly lost and we will be together once again. Millions of souls could be retrieved and with a virtual world plenty of space would exist for them. Imagine dying 50yrs from now only to be greeted by your entire family tree and escorted into a new existence. Do you think this could be possible? Are we only living the first phase of our existence right now?

Maybe I am misunderstanding your post, OP. I don't see going back in time to collect a body to be of much importance. And surely one can't capture a soul. IMHO a soul is timeless. It's there. It's always there. I just don't see the possibilty of capturing a soul and placing it in another age. It's always there. Everywhere. I'll reread your post and try to wrap my brain around this.

Anyway, SnF for the post because I would like to read others' responses. Maybe I've missed something. It would'nt be the first time for me. Swooooooooooooosh! Ack! It went over my head, why did I duck?

Maybe "soul" is the wrong term, how about consciousness. Our consciousness being downloaded before death (assuming the retriever knows exactly when we are going to die -and being from the future they could find this out). Then they upload our captured consciousness to their 'mainframe' and you are in a new world in the future, virtually. The implications could be amazing. Imagine if you lost a child, they had cancer and died at age 7, you are retrieved into the future at age 80 after death, and then told "we're going to get your child, you'll be with them soon". It is the ultimate in immortality..

No I don't beleive time travel will do this, however just the other day I saw something on a guy who wants to create a program that will store a persons whole lifetime of memories and knowledge, in short their entire conciousness. That is seperate from the soul and not a part of it at all. In fact our conciousness is vertually erased when we cross over anything we know on the other side, it is experienced as others would experence it through viewing.

What's more likely is a process I like to call 'Parallel Reality Time Manipulation.' It's a method I describe in my short story These Dark Worlds where a group of individuals known as the Timewave Technicians emerge from a world struck by a negative technological singularity and attempt to alter the past by merging parallel realities and splicing portions of varying 'timewaves.'

Anyway, I don't feel that time travel along one single timeline is possible. Our consciousness is firmly embedded in the Now, and in order to experience other 'times' we need to dislodge our consciousness and shift gears so to speak to a parallel (and very similar) timeline. According to quantum mechanics, there can be many versions of you in many realities. If so, then this natural phenomenon could be manipulated to one's advantage given the specific technological know-how.

This said, I think something like 'soul retrieval' could happen via this process, and it could happen seemingly instantaneously rather than having to wait for one's own timeline to reach it's end. I also beleive that parallel timelines are not completely independant and solid, but fluid, merging, and interwoven. If that's the case then you are constantly shifting your consciousness ever so slightly with other versions of you without your ever noticing.

There's no reason why this series of sensory inputs should be seen as unique, I agree that a virtual future is one that at least follows the direction of the internet economy.

There are paradoxes though. The mind needed to experience virtual reality may evolve very differently to the mind which experiences a biological life.

After we die, we live in cyberspace?

The people from the past in cyberspace would try to influence (govern?) the real world. !!!!

Who's to say that your influence would stop when you die?

Millions would resurrect Hitler, and other tyrants

in some ways your ideas parallel Friedrich Nietzsche

Or.....

Maybe we dont need that because we have already incarnated into the bodies we have now from previous periods. And after we day will incarnate in thew future

you do realize that THIS life here is a virtual one too hehe. And there is no "will be living again" - everyone lives ALWAYS and forever, always have. we are all infinite WHOLENESS,eternal. u can travel in time even now, anywhere. ofcourse you need to realyl know how and be spiritually enlightened enough, and msot of us stil aren't,in this linear time illusion. but in due "time" we will be.

How do we know we already haven't been downloaded and are living the simulation right now? I am assuming this is what you are talking about putting ancestral "conciousness" into a simulator to know how they lived?
