Unemployment Rate Rises as Pace of Layoffs Slows

www.truthout.org

The ranks of Americans looking for work continued to swell in April, as the nation's unemployment rate rose to 8.9 percent, the Labor Department reported this morning.

Although it is the highest jobless rate since September 1983, the pace of job losses slowed appreciably last month compared with February and March, another sign that the severe economic slump might be starting to ease.

Well, I have heard of unemployment rates anywhere for 7 to 20 percent. I don't trust any of these number to be accurate as the MSM media now has to credibility with me after the swine flu fiasco. I'm guessing unemployment is at about 15 percent or so which is no good. Will see how this plays out and I only can hope that this supposed slowing in layoffs is true although I highly doubt it..

I dunno what to think. I remember Boeing's alarmist news article claiming they were in trouble and would be laying off THOUSANDS.

But right now, it seems everyone who has been there a long while, has just retired. Now Boeing has an UNDERSTAFFING problem, and begging employees to work 12hr days, 7days/wk, overtime, double-time, etc etc.

I wonder how many other companies that put out those huge numbers, are dealing with the same thing.

Much of the working force, is RETIRING. I wonder how they will be paid for, if they are not replaced in the work-force....

Sorry, just my random ramblings. I dunno what to think right now.
