I think the notion of Neanderthal needs some updating here.
In the 19th Century they tried to show Neanderthal Man as ugl, brutish, inferior. A sort of racism iimplying Western European man was the pinnacle of
human development.
Neanderthals were human, and not a separate species. Recent discoveries indicate we today may be hybrids of Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal Man.
in many ways Neanderthal was more advanced culturally and probably intellectually. Cro-magnon excelled in tools and weapons, and in the end that
might account for his dominance.
Classic Neanderthals may have existed as a group as late as 25,000 B.C.
Some argue he my still be lurking around somewhere.
