61 Arrested Protesting Torture Outside White House

Gates’s comments came as sixty-one protesters were arrested outside the White House Thursday to call for the closure of Guantanamo and the prosecution of Bush administration officials who authorized torture there. The arrests followed a march of more than 150 people. Dozens wore black hoods and orange jumpsuits similar to those worn by Guantanamo prisoners. The protest was organized by Witness Against Torture and Amnesty International.

This is and has been an increase in these unconstitutional arrests ever since Bush took office and now Obama is continuing these same tactics. It is saddening to think that our civil rights and constitutional rights mean nothing anymore. The press is owned by the corrupt corporations and we are in an ever growing police state. I know people get arrested all the time for protesting but whatever happened to the right to assembly? oh yea, the patriot act which Barry voted for himself... A true Patriot.....

this is truly horrible, but it can't let stop us. Prison is always their big scare tactic, don't go against our orders or we'll send you to jail. They even indoctrinate us when we're young with "juvvy" as if only the bad kids go to jail when in reality it is protesters, first time drug offenders, political journalists, soldiers who don't sell their souls to their fake country. I'm sick of this. If I ever get thrown in jail I'm telling everyone in the cell all about what the government is really up to. That's the way to make their prison system back fire. The majority of people in jail are pissed off but not informed. Once you inform them you'll have people who are both pissed off AND informed. Now that is a scary combination.

Sgt. David Schlosser says the protesters stood still, violating a permit regulation that required them to remain in motion on the center portion of sidewalk.

Get a permit. Problem solved.
