Swine flu allowed to spread?

I've been wondering the last few days about the swine flu and a couple of issues have crossed my mind.

1) Why is every country in the world checking at their borders and containing suspected infected people?

2) Why is the US not doing anything in the way of checking at the border.

3) Why are officials in the US downplaying the seriousness of this issue?

Statements have been made in the past, "Don't let a good crisis go to waste".

FEMA camps have shown to exist in areas across the country. Maybe we will learn why they were built in the first place.

Help me out here. Am I trying to add up things that should not be added.
