In a role reversal that some will find troublesome, it has been learned that, in December 2002, former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld rejected a request to use waterboarding to interrogate terrorist prisoners. But, other sources claim, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi D-Calif., did not object to its use after she had been informed of the practice months earlier in September 2002.

Very interesting article , what a tangled web politics in DC weaves. At this point I want trials and lets have the chips fall where they may. I think personally the calls for a truth commission and trials are gonna be a thing of the past once the public realizes that Democrats and Republicans are just a s culpable for torture of prisoners. Democrats should be careful what they wish for.

I doubt we will ever get a straight answer about this. Both parties are playing the blame game, purposefully. Seems the goal is to cause so much confusion that nothing can be sorted out well enough to do anything about the situation. I have no doubt that both sides were in on it. This whole thing is one big distraction tactic, it's time to look into what they're trying to divert attention from. There are bigger issues that need our attention. Good thread, S&F.

Kudos to Mr. Rumsfeld. I'm not going to defend his career, as he made a plethora of mistakes during his stint as SoD, but at least he made one honorable decision.

Nancy Pelosi, on the other hand, is a shill. She's a hypocrite if I've ever seen one, how can you stand against something publicly then approve of it privately? What an absolute disgrace.

This almost reminds me of that film "A Few Good Men".

I can see it now....on the record Rumsfield rejecting it, however off the record saying it is an invaluable technique for extracting info.....so if it happens it happens.

Difficult to say, i do know i wouldn't trust a word out of any of thier mouths though.

So now Rumsfeld is a good guy for not condoning the use of torture?

He was the Big Cheese and could have stopped it, which he didn't, so is therefore as guilty as those actually performing the torture.

Waterboarding a few congress members would get the answers as to who did what real quick. In fact, I'm sure just the threat of it and shackling them would be enough to make them wet themselves and sing like canaries.
