I see your point Gawdzilla, but it still doesnt leave the current administration and congress off the hook for spending irresponsibly.

They're bailing the boat. The Repugnicans shot holes in the hull. Should we just let it sink?

But there is several other games to play. You could base the world economy off of the Euro, the Chinese Currency, or some oil producing nations currency. Pretty much anything else that is not bankrupt.

They are also Fiat Instrument of Debt currencies attached to nothing.

They also lack the military arsenal and enough people exposed to John Wayne movies.

Ever see a French movie it's all crying and love making? Ever see an Arab movie? Burkas don't sell sex sells! Ever seen a Chinese movie? You try stopping an M-16 on full auto from fifty feet away Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee...I dare you...I double dog dare you...heck I tripple dog dare you...

Hey where did Pasta come from? Marco Pollo brought it back to Italy from China...where did oil come from? Ever seen the impressive Roman ruins inside of Iran of the city of Perseppolis? Hey where did French Fries come from...Cissipine Gaul...Frankfurters?...Germania.

Every country you are talking about is just another Roman State...while we my friend are the Roman Republic, Roman Empire, and Holy Roman Empire all rolled into one and the principal legion that keeps the whole Empire in line.

There is no other game...there is just an illusion that there is another game.

Well, I’m not an economist nor do I claim to be a real smart person but here is my theory:

1. The U.S. Government spends money like a whole boat full of drunken sailors and runs up debt beyond imagination.
2. This allows the politicians (from both parties) to pay off all of their friends, sock away plenty of money for themselves and buy more votes from all of the oppressed people they “help.”
3. The world keeps buying up our debt because they already have a ton of it and don’t want to lose all of their money by doing anything that will damage the illusion that the almighty dollar has any value.
4. Eventually, there will be nobody left to buy up U.S. debt (dollars). Oops – default on all of those trillions of dollars.
5. The U.S. must then either deal with hyper-inflation or devalue the dollar. Either way, the value of all of those dollars drops by 90% or more.
6. The U.S. debt of say 20 Trillion dollars is now suddenly actually worth only 1 or 2 Trillion dollars. So sorry Russia, China and everyone else – we just screwed you royally. Have a nice day.
7. Of course, U.S. citizens will suffer because of all of this just like everyone else – but do our dear leaders care? Not one little bit.

Yeah, we're screwed. I tried a similar method as a poor college student, as many others did as well. I opened a credit card and spent my heart out until they quit approving me. But then guess what happened, they started calling to harass me for money ?!?! Then they cut me off !?!? Then, omg, the worst thing I had to actually pay it back bc they kept raising my limit and charging me various fees and in the end I think I had paid nearly twice as much as I initially purchased. Fortunately for me, my parents were able to pay off the card and I paid them back interest free. But my parents can't afford to lend anymore money to the government and I am beginning to feel that we as a country are in our junior year in my little analogy, which means time is running out on our economic front. At some point, one must quit spending. That's it, there is no other way, otherwise I would have a lot better toys and such.

Thank you so much. You summed up my view of things exactly and much better than I could have ever put it.

I didnt vote for Obama, because he said this is what he was going to do. I will say he is a man of his word, more or less.

I dont know where you are from but not everyone in America is as stupid as the rest of the world would have you believe.

That's true, not everyone in America is dumb.. but many people are. A
huge amount of Americans are completely undereducated, which is not
even their fault. But they're also not interested in further educating
themselves. It's just something you have to decide for yourself, without
relying on the government and the media to tell you what's important.
We've all seen what this unwillingness to self educate has led the world
to under USA leadership.. the entire world has turned into a cruel mess.

I agree we have a huge amount of idiots in this country. I disagree when you say it isnt there fault. If you werent born with a medical defect and you are stupid then its your own fault. Anyone can grab a book or go to the library or watch some documentaries on tv. You get a free education here. If you pay attention you are going to learn something.

History is nothing but a story from the victors perspective, and there are always two sides to every story. I think that when a person really submerses themselves into any historical account (or any subject), it can be very overwhelming once the person starts studying the perspective of the losers. Many people do not deal with be overwhelmed very well, typically they give up. I, personally enjoy Socrates quote "the only thing I know is I don't know anything". Really, unless your there to witness it a person can never the real story.

Yep, very true. Until Jan 20, 2009, GM and Chrysler were rock solid, profitable enterprises. Then, BANG, B.O. gets sworn in and those two companies are suddenly attacked by all kinds of economic problems, all of which were created by Obama while he was shopping for a dog.

Sheesh.
