Here are some links...

Fox News...

ABC News...

MSNBC News...

The White House authorized a "photo-op" allowing what appeared to be Air Force One (wasn't AF1 since Obama wasn't aboard) and a fighter jet to fly low over NYC looking like a possible 9/11 repeat...and causing the evacuation of buildings???

First...they have a lot to say "sorry" for, but secondly...in this economy and all, we need to be spending this kind of money (planes, pilots, fuel, etc.) for a damn "photo-op" of AF1 flying by the Statue Of Liberty? And are we supposed to believe that Obama didn't know about this and is now "furious"?

I'd love to see how much that picture of AF1 flying by the Statue Of Liberty cost of OUR MONEY!

This is something that was definitly not thought out. Another careless action on the part of our current administration to boost the egos. Look what we can do.

It would not surprise me if it were intentional, actually. I don't blame the mayor of NY for being PO'd.

Someone else mentioned (in another thread) that it looked like Obama was finding some answers to questions he had about 911.
Reading the MSNBC article linked to in the OP it makes me wonder. The flight is described as flying over the statue at an altitude that would approximate where flight 175 was, as it went past the same spot.

While, I wont begin to address the stupidity of not informing people that a VC-25 was going to be flying around with a F-16 escort.... I will however, state, do you think the only time the VC-25 flies is when the President is on board?

Even when the Pres is at home, the crews still have to fly so many hours a month to stay "current" and given that their job is to fly the President, they spend a lot more time flying than most military pilots. So why not take advantage of the training missions and take some pictures.
