I have just seen our local news for the Midlands in the UK and they had a clip where they had pretended to place a crashed alien space craft on their school playing field complete with smoke effects, police cordon and dressedup policeman so that they could all see it just as they were coming into school.

When I saw it I thought it was pretty odd thing to do. They said it was to get kids interested in science. You can now see it by watching the latest program at the top of the page at the link below and going to around the 60% mark after the sport section.

Hmm, I've noticed a lot of UFO/alien references in children's broadcasting and advertising in the UK recently though this is likely to my pre-existing interest in the subject, meaning I'm more likely to notice it, coupled with the fact that as a new parent I'm watching a lot more children's TV these days!

Here's a US ad for some space lego - make your own conclusions. The UK ad for the same/similar product implores the viewer to 'shoot the UFO down' and 'send that alien back where he belongs' (or words to that effect) which I find interesting.

What is absolutely apparent is that the subject no longer seems to be ridiculed the way it used to be.

Here's a direct link to the clip

I think it's unlikely this is part of an organised campaign, more likely it's just a very enthusiastic teacher. It's interesting how the police were involved though.

Perhaps rather than getting the children ready for disclosure they're trying to make them into debunkers, since the scene was obviously faked.

Thanks for finding that video, it is a slightly different report to the one I first saw and I thought it was just a dressed up policeman, but that version of the report shows that they were the real thing and with fire crews too in one section.

When your a kid and your not expecting that on your way into school and you see police cars etc you are going to believe it until you get closer to the wreckage.

I saw that on the news last night & although it seemed pretty cool from a kids point of view i couldnt help thinking it was a complete waste of money.
There were a few police cars, half a dozen officers, a fire engine & crew + the group that organised it.
Thats got to have cost a fair bit to stage!

Complete edit. I found the thread.

Is my 7 year old daughter being prepped for disclosure by her school?

It's an older thread, but a good one and it seems like it might have the same type of UFO themed homework sheets like the video exercise in this thread.

Enjoy it!

That boy at the end is smarter than most "Ufologists" both amateur and *snicker* professional.

"It looked fake, there was like fireworks and fake things..."

Want a job kid ?

You could take over that guy Bill on UFO Hunters.

Then again, don't he's funny as fudge with his wildly over the top conclusions :p

yeah, it occoured to me that it was quite an extravagant way of interesting children in science. the cops, the fire brigade, the rubbish tip the call a crashed ship, a complete waste of time, energy and money.

i've heard it said that the government give a school a budget for the year, if they come in under budget at the end of the year their budget will be cut the following year.

i don't know if it's true or not but i can see little good reason for this crap other than using up the yearly budget.
