Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano this week said she is working with governors to repeal the Real ID Act, which was passed in 2005 and went into effect last year.

The bill is popular in Washington, but is scorned by many governors who bear the responsibility and cost of validating that holders of driver's licenses are citizens or legal residents of the United States.

Napolitano, former governor of Arizona, said she has met with governors of both parties recently "to look at a way to repeal Real ID." She said she wants to substitute the federal law with "something else that pivots off of the driver's license but accomplishes some of the same goals. And we hope to be able to announce something on that fairly soon."

Napolitano made her remarks Tuesday in response to a question at a conference of the Anti-Defamation League.

On Wednesday, Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wisconsin, a sponsor of the law, said he was "angered" by Napolitano's comments.

"Real ID is a necessary program for keeping America safe. It is the will of Congress and also a recommendation of the 9/11 Commission," Sensenbrenner said.

Sounds to me like they are just trying to cut the controversy by changing the name to something else...

Works for Blackwater why not the Feds...

Just more of the "Good Cop" routine of the Obama administration...

Should work nicely on the sheeple!

What I wanna do is have a press conference and ask the american people...(and they can use there tech savvy phones that cost 500 dollars but complain about gas to text me there answers) why do you like to be afraid everyday? Why do you like these dumb people to tell you how to feel, think, and live? The way I see it is if you depend on any type of media for you information with no type of research of your own to form your own opinion...then you shouldn't be able to have kids. Talk about population control and saftey....what about ignorance and greed!!!! But like in my intro post....Let's not talk about it..let's be about it then they might get a clue!!

You should listen to Michael Savage rip her to shreds, he is brutal on her and Fienstein, Holder, Pelosi, Harmon, Frank, the list goes on forever. Reminds me of that CHILI PEPPER song. GIVE IT AWAY, GIVE IT AWAY NOW!

I thought many would be happy to see the Real ID repealed.

Maybe I am reading this wrong, but seems to meet she is trying to put it back in the State's hand, not the Fed's.

I would maybe be open to at least hearing about it, if the 2 groups that recommend it weren't complete liars and swindlers...... the 9/11 commission.... REALLY....they can't even get there timeline accurate let alone tell the American people how to be safe with a plastic card version of a RFID.

You are quite right! She was one of the first if not the first to jump
on the bandwagon for the un-real id.

She cannot be trusted in anything she proposes!

The "real ID act" won't be repealed, it'll just simply be renamed. States have already spent too much money paying for the new driver's licenses already, and then to have to turn around and reissue another set? Here in virginia, ours is set to kick off in may, and the money has done been appropriated. I am like the other poster who said that this is the prelude to the chip in our skin. Right now, the big thing about everything and everybody going "green" is the use of paper. Well, if everybody is "chipped" the paper usage is cut by nearly two thirds, if not more. Say hello to the "beast" system folks. How long to armageddon now? I read a report today where Rahm Emanuel said that he and obama already had a plan in place that guranteed "peace" in Israel, and it will be implemented as early as 2011 or early 2012. Hmmmm, "guaranteed" peace? Hold on folks, it's going to get exciting now!

I agree TruthMagnet, I’m watching this development with skeptical and weary eyes.
