Not so fast. When seeds germinate they only have a certain amount of energy(food) stored up and have a limited growth potential without sunlight and nutrients. The "tree' they show in the X-Ray and photo is far too large to have sprouted from a seed and survived to get that big without sunlight and proper nutrients.
I think this comment from the source puts things in proper perspective:
Oh sure there was a tree growing in his lungs and in that tree they also found a birds nest, a lost kite and the head of an axe which got broken off it's handle when the the little people, who live in his stomach tried to cut it down. They were ever so hungry and needed the wood to built a fire so they could cook up chunks of his liver.
This is just another cheap tabloid telling stories. In this case, don't ask a medical Doctor, ask a Botanist. This is a hoax pure and simple.

Care to offer any scientific evidence that sunlight can penetrate through the chest, into the chest cavity, into lung tissue and provide enough light for photosynthesis? There has been a great deal of research done on the optical properties of skin, which indicates otherwise.
What about the immune reaction to foreign bodies? What about the lack of essential plant nutrients that are not found in the human body in sufficient amounts for plant growth?
I'd love to hear some verifiable scientific evidence that refutes any of these issues.

I can see why people are calling hoax... but why the hell would you do that for a hoax?
I've had plants start growing from a seed that was just sat on wet toilet paper in a cupboard, plus most of the time we ingest seeds we've swallowed them not inhaled them, can't imagine it would take long for your stomach to break a seed down but if it did get into a lung I'd wager growth is possible, moist environment packed full of carbon dioxide.
Wonder if the fact its and evergreen plant has anything to do with it?
These microorganisms are not found in the human body and could not survive inside the body if placed there as the immune system would quickly destroy them. There are also several other essential nutrients required for plant growth, that are not found in the human body in sufficient amounts. Without them, the plant would not grow.
Plants get nitrogen by forming a relationship with micro organisms and form nodules, which is a swelling on a root that has bactiria. Microorganisms can then get nitrogen from the air and plants take it in through the roots.
