As to the tree getting light....your body is not impervious to light.
I would have wanted to plant the tree.
Couldn't help but feel kinda kin to it.

Weird things happen. Truth is stranger than fiction.

Care to offer any scientific evidence that sunlight can penetrate through the chest, into the chest cavity, into lung tissue and provide enough light for photosynthesis? There has been a great deal of research done on the optical properties of skin, which indicates otherwise.

What about the immune reaction to foreign bodies? What about the lack of essential plant nutrients that are not found in the human body in sufficient amounts for plant growth?

I'd love to hear some verifiable scientific evidence that refutes any of these issues.

I think he simply inhaled the two-inch-long fir foliage, perhaps while working or walking outside.

Not so fast. When seeds germinate they only have a certain amount of energy(food) stored up and have a limited growth potential without sunlight and nutrients. The "tree' they show in the X-Ray and photo is far too large to have sprouted from a seed and survived to get that big without sunlight and proper nutrients.

I think this comment from the source puts things in proper perspective:

Oh sure there was a tree growing in his lungs and in that tree they also found a birds nest, a lost kite and the head of an axe which got broken off it's handle when the the little people, who live in his stomach tried to cut it down. They were ever so hungry and needed the wood to built a fire so they could cook up chunks of his liver.

This is just another cheap tabloid telling stories. In this case, don't ask a medical Doctor, ask a Botanist. This is a hoax pure and simple.

My housemate showed me the article in "The Sun" when I got home and I immediately noticed that the leaves were large and green. My question to him was... how did this plant photosynthesize whilst inside the person's body ? How can it be so green and healthy without sun ?

I totally agree with you, this is highly unlikely. Seeds only have enough energy to break open the husk and push through the ground, it's only then that they spread out their leaves in order to get sunlight to begin photosynthesizing. The object in his lungs is already quite developed.

- for those that dont know (though you really should.) - Photosynthesis is what makes leaves/plants green - the process of photosynthesis creates chlorophyll which is what makes plants green, the sun is really needed in order for that to happen which is where I think this story is falling short.

Lets not forget that certain plants actually need darkness to germinate - hence one of the reasons for the soil. If strong enough sunlight was permeating through the alveoli and to the plant then it would likely be detrimental to the seed - direct sunlight isn't good for seeds, only for the leaves when the plant is more mature. That plant is very green, it has loads of starch and has been photosynthesizing, I find it very hard to believe sunlight could permeate a body, if it could we would have a bigger problem with pregnancy as babies need dark to develop, sunlight would give them incredible problems during development.

Have to agree with you Leto!
I saw the footage on T.V. News, and it was a definitely a sprig opposed to a small tree. I didnt see any roots, which a small tree would have.
I think that in the nature of the Fir spring, this going down your trachea could be likened to being pierced with a fish-hook IE: it goes in one way but cant go back as the needles spread in only one direction.
But man, it must have hurt like hell breathing that thing in! Maybe he'd had a "bit "to drink at the time??

I've seen cases of individuals whom have choked while eating, and upon investigation have food right down into the Bronchi of the lungs. It is possible to inhale a large foreign object into the centre of the lung itself.

I can see why people are calling hoax... but why the hell would you do that for a hoax?

I've had plants start growing from a seed that was just sat on wet toilet paper in a cupboard, plus most of the time we ingest seeds we've swallowed them not inhaled them, can't imagine it would take long for your stomach to break a seed down but if it did get into a lung I'd wager growth is possible, moist environment packed full of carbon dioxide.

Wonder if the fact its and evergreen plant has anything to do with it?

Dude but evergreen just means it grows all year round instead of losing it's leaves in autumn, it doesn't mean it's always green and can grow in darkness. You wont grow everything on a piece of toilet paper, only simple things like beans etc. I highly doubt a conifer would sprout from toilet paper, even if it did - there's no chance it would develop leaves that large and that green whilst still in the cupboard. Exactly what minerals is it using for energy to grow ? - considering it's got no sun, only water and toilet paper. Where is it absorbing nitrogen from, something that is essential to plant life.

"Nitrogen is a major constituent of several of the most important substances which occur in plants. It is of outstanding importance among the essential elements in that nitrogen compounds comprise from 40 to 50% of the dry matter of protoplasm, the living substance of plant cells. For this reason nitrogen is required in relatively large quantities in connection with all growth processes in plants. It follows directly from this that without an adequate supply of nitrogen appreciable growth cannot take place and that plants may remain stunted and relatively undeveloped when nitrogen is deficient."

No when I've had a couple of different shoots on the go the toilet paper doesn't provide the plant with anything, it just holds moisture so the seed stays wet, I've done this with a variety of plants.

I do see where you're coming from though and I theres no way photosynthesis could have occured inside the body.. just from how many news outlets are broadcasting this I don't think its a hoax, just that someone has come up with a completely wrong explanation for how it got there, according to the articles the guy has had to have quite of bit of tissue removed, you would not do that just for a prank!

The point about nitrogen aswell.. isn't like 78% of our air Nitrogen.. there'd be an abundance of it in the lungs so getting hold of that would be no problem

Lets try this and see if it helps to explain how a plant could beging growth inside the human body.
The article on the following site discusses the use by plants of far-infrared light.

Here's another:

Here's an article on light conductance in the human body.

Here is one discussing red light and infrared light.

Uh huh, Light will enter the skin and spread out due to diffusion. Light Diffusion in Skin Layers But it will not penetrate as deep as the lungs. There are several layers to skin and sunlight light will simply go as far as the lower dermis layer. The optical properties of Skin have been very well studied, and there is no question that no sunlight enters the lungs. Ever hear of anyone getting sun burned lungs?????

As for nitrogen, plants are not very good at taking Nitrogen out of the air. They need to uptake it from the spoil from Nitrogen fixing microorganisms.

Plants get nitrogen by forming a relationship with micro organisms and form nodules, which is a swelling on a root that has bactiria. Microorganisms can then get nitrogen from the air and plants take it in through the roots.
These microorganisms are not found in the human body and could not survive inside the body if placed there as the immune system would quickly destroy them. There are also several other essential nutrients required for plant growth, that are not found in the human body in sufficient amounts. Without them, the plant would not grow.

You can start sprouts on simply a wet piece of tissue paper, but if you put an opaque bowl over it and block out the light, it will only grow until the seeds food is used up. If you leave the bowl off, it will grow a bit longer, but without nutrients it will die soon.

Don't discount the immune system either. If you get a wood splinter in your skin and leave it in, it will swell up, and begin to fill with puss in just 24 hours. A tree in your lungs would have a much stronger reaction.

as a paranoid conspiracy theorists I'd say this news piece is ...

the NWO making themselves public by claiming that they have established their stronghold over the average man.

it was an evergreen no? everlasting?

just my paranoid take on it.

2 inch high tree, a tree that takes the oxygen (life, air, lung) from a man, oh the irony.

even after a multitude of volcanos in hawaii the earth regroups to form beautiful new terra, but get real....trees have better places to be than in some human. He is some kind of chia-human? pleaseeeeeeee

If the source is Russian, the even greater miracle would be that it's actually true. I've watched them invent UFO stories, shocking hidden history stories, and amazing medical anomalies is just a new variant of tabloid press tactics.

That said, I've heard weirder things growing inside human bodies. The plant world is quite amazing in it's ability to take root and flourish even in the grimmest environments. Ideally light access and certain conditions are optimal, but maybe not absolutely as essential as some think.

Remember evolution also affects plants, and hardy strains that can grow in complete darkness and function as parasites might be an as yet little known development. But I truly doubt this is the case with the type of plant described.

But as part of my work a long time ago, I've seen medical documentation and photographs of the things that have been found after autopsies that were growing inside people often for years unnoticed. I remember a few cases all too clearly, and the thoughts of them make me nauseous.
