U.S. using Political Clout to Hand Pick Afganistans President-Influencing Election

Did you know that 3 of the Afganistan's Presidential contenders held U.S. passports and citizenship? Also, the U.S. is trying to get some of the contenders to drop out of the race, so their guy can win, a report has revealed. Overlooking the fact it is against the Afganistan's consitution that any President has to be an Afganistan citizen.
It doesn't seem the U.S. is acknowledging that small little section of their consitution.

Washington is using its political clout to influence the outcome of the upcoming presidential elections in Afghanistan, a report says.

The US embassy in Kabul has urged Afghanistan's leading presidential hopefuls to withdraw from the race in favor of Ali Ahmad Jalali -- a candidate that is more preferred by Washington, reported Pakistan's Ummat daily.

In return, US official have promised to guarantee key positions for the three candidates -- which include finance minister Ashraf Ghani, former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah and political activist Anwar ul-Haq Ahadi -- in the next Afghan government.

The move received instant condemnation as flagrant US interference in Afghan politics and internal affairs.

Jalali -- who is viewed as the main rival of President Hamed Karzai in the August presidential elections -- is a US citizen and former Afghan minister of the interior.

His candidacy is seen as a direct violation of the Chapter Three, Article Sixty Two of Afghanistan's Constitution, which states that only an Afghan citizen has the right to run for president - which means that Jalali would have to apply for Afghan citizenship first.

Zalmay Khalilzad and Ashraf Ghani, two other candidates vying for presidency, also hold US citizenship.

Interesting enough - the one candidate who this report claims the U.S. wants as the President - shows as "unconfirmed" as a candidate on the above page, but what is even more interesting, is the guy doesn't even live in Afghanistan, he lives in the U.S.

I am submitting this, but I also want to point out, I am just not sure how much truth is involved with the intial report. It just doesn't seem fesible to me, that the U.S. would seriously be trying to get other candidates to drop out, so a guy who lives in the U.S. could become the President.

I also would not imagine others would drop out or the Afghan people would allow this.

Would the U.S. be so brazen to really think they could get other candidates to drop out so a U.S. citizen would be President in Afghanistan?

This kind of international manipulation only occurs in the elite circles, where national sovereignty is a laughable concept.

What on earth would make anyone think this doesn't apply globally?

Even Iran has it's share of 'influences' from abroad.... but since they are all Muslim, they tolerate it.
