what if the mayans just ran out of room to build. what if we are all here planning our last days and the mayan spirits are all cosmically laughing at us. I personally think that it would be hilarious if we wake up on 12-21-2012 and everything that we know is just the same as it was the day before. And if the world ends who cares what i think we'll all be dead, resurrected, in heaven or poofed out of existence anyways.

Something will definately happen, cosmo wise or at a base level.

But, I doubt a civilization with the vast understanding of the heavens, were JK, just kidding.

If they were, it'd be a very well thought out and prepared joke.

The end of the world has already come and gone. Didn't you check your email?

Seriously, why do people think the world will end in 2012? Or any of the other "end of the world" dates that have already passed, for that matter?

That would be so funny if they just went; man how far do i need to calculate this calender? Well how far are you? well almost finished 2012. Man forget it, let's get a drink. Waking up the next morning with a huge hangover he said the world was going to end as an excuse to the high priests to explain why the calendar ends at 2012.

But i think not.

the only big joke with the date 2012 is that some people really think that the end of the world will come.

mayas told us this:

2012 is the date of CHANGING TIME

CHANGING TIME

NOT

END OF WORLD

big joke yep

What I don't get is, the Mayans had this very advanced knowledge of the heavens and were able to construct a detailed and accurate calendar, but at the same time were into human sacrifices and ripping the still-beating hearts out of their victims to sacrifice to their "gods". Okay, so they made a cool calendar. That doesn't make them wise, and that doesn't make them prophets.

Actually the funny part would be if something were to happen. 2012 is just another date which will probably be forgotten in time . What really matters and what everyone has to remember is that if it might not be 2000 , 2012 , 2040 , 2144 , but sooner or later the end will come in one form or another . Nothing lasts forever.

Exactly. I sincerly don't know who some people think they are by predicting the future. I mean sure the human civilization is capable of accomplishing some incredible tasks but seeing the future is not something we are capable of. Hell we can't even figure out our past...and we worry about the future.

Exactly i am sure that it is hard work for people to hammer away at rock just for a calendar, and at some point they must of thought 'ok, now we are 2000 years ahead nobody will have to hammer any rock for a while, lets have a rest and let others deal with it later'

Because they had mixed religion and sciences together. That's the Aztec btw, if you're talking about apocalypto.. lol. Anyway, they were into sacrifices and stuff because that was their religion and their sciences came down from high priests etc so religion and science meshed for them. The calendar could be anything, we will just have to wait and find out. Personally I think they used the calendars to track several things, comets or annual changes etc. Basically the same thing we use ours for. Full moon this night this night and etc. It's hard to say why the calendar ended at that date or what "change" they were talking about but one cannot brush it off as nonsense. These people no matter how barbaric we think they are had a vast understanding of what universe around them they could see. Much earlier than we did. To simply brush off the calendar as nonsense could mean putting away evidence of a possible cataclysmic event. This is just an example. Perhaps the calendar in some way was a tracking device for the time that butt loads of cosmic dust from the center of the milky way would make its way to earth and perhaps alter humans in some way. This is just another example.

Surely it would be more ignorant to deny something that is ancient simply because we do not fully understand it, then it is to spend more time attempting to understand it. But maybe that's just me.

Personally, I do not think the world will end in 2012.

After seeing a program called "Ancient Aliens" on the History Channel.
(Very interesting by the way, check it out)
I thought to myself, if ET's did in fact intervene and teach our ancient ancestors highly evolved techniques for building, astronomy, etc, maybe 2012 is when these said ET's are to return again.

Like the above poster said, 2012 is the time of "change" not end.

And, I don't know about you but, ET's showing up on the planet, to help or to rid of us, would certainly CHANGE my world.

Its the little "jew lightworkers" who push all of this. Little athiest judaics who could'nt stand the existentialist angst of their new found atheism so they push a mish mash of myan, hindu and gobbeldy gook new age channeled "light worker" tripe.

It's all good. I love them bagging Jesus and telling me the Bible is a crock while telling me enthusiastically of the worm hole passage ways to egypt where the pyramid gods live.

Boogley, you made a good argument. I'll think about what you said. But I think you are mistaken about Apocalypto; that was the Mayans, not the Aztecs portrayed in the movie.

All this 2012 end of the world nonsense, just because the Mayan calendar ends that year, is the worst nonsense I've heard in a long time. When 2012 comes and goes and nothing happens the believers in this kind of bunk will simply pick another date and begin their scare mongering again.

There's a lot of info, that a lot of you folks need to read. Research where the mayan's borrowed their calendar ideas from, where else in the world calendars are almost the same as the mayan's, and at what time.

It's all borrowed technology/knowledge from someone before them. I don't think the world is going to END during december 2012. I do however think that give or take a year from that date, something significant will happen in our system/galaxy/universe? Someone, maybe not the mayans, studied long and hard over the stars as they passed by for decades, even centuries. I doubt they wanted to leave any details out of their lifes work. Would you write a book and leave out part of it?

I think people are correct in assuming the calendar restarts, but what else restarts? Is it a period of time where our planet realigns its tilt? Everyone knows we're spinning like a wobbly top right now, at some point we're either going to fall over (is that possible? who knows, we havent been around long enough) or something/someone is going to give us a boost.

Personally, I believe that this mysterious planet that everyone except us (current civilizations) knew about this outside force, who probably comes around every few thousand years and swaps some gravitational spit with the rest of the planets here. For those of you who don't realize how big of an impact a planet passing through our system that is between the size of earth and saturn is, consider that the tiny little moon we have that orbits us, not crosses us, is a primary factor in the tides of the oceans.

Well, for one thing, I am not one of these "OMG 2012 is going to be the end of the world or some major life changing thing on a global scale"

What I do believe is that the reason the Mayan Calendar ends at 2012 is because the Spanish showed up and nearly wiped them and their culture off the face of the earth. If that never happened, im sure you would see new calendars that go well into 4000.

2012 to them was nothing more than a change....much like how todays astrologers talk about the age of aquarius and Jupiter being in the 7th house...yada yada yada.

One myth I find funny is that the Mayans completely disappeared off the face of the earth without a trace.......bah. I got the chance to go to a Mayan village and meet a few of the families living there when I was in the Mayan Riviera last year. They are still here, even with their own culture and language separate from the rest of the Mexican population.
