Isn't the current ATS Member Poll "What do you think of UFOs" a little redundant? Since they are, by definition, unidentified, each instance of an unidentified flying object could be any number of things. More to the point, the question of what an individual thinks of them is meaningless; in case A I might think the observer saw a plane, in case B I might thing the observer is an attention seeking crank. You can't just form a blanket "all UFOs are [insert one size fits all explanation here]" view.

Poor.

See I consider all possibilities for example. A person says he saw something in the sky and provides a picture / video.

I consider that.

A. It is an airplane or something else of this earth.

B. It is an ET craft visiting this planet for one reason or another.

C. He is a hoaxer.

Just forgetting that option B. is a remote possibility is a fallacy. An intelligent person must consider all possibilities before coming to any conclusion, and you have to allow possibilities to have an open mind, or else you succumb to your own prejudices on the subject. You don't necessarily have to believe them, but allow them as possible.

You cant include an "all ufo's are [blank]" response requirement because not every UFO is the same, the situation changes, the stories are different, some seem to be telling the truth while others are obviously lying. It's a case by case basis. Try something else for a response requirement.

My point isn't that I do or do not believe someone who claims to have seen a UFO. My point is that, by definition, UFOs are unidentified and, as a result, it is impossible to say, for example, "I think UFOs are alien spacecraft".

I might think some are alien spacecraft, but that isn't the point: the point is about the lack of thought that's gone into the poll. The wider point is that if people who believe in the existence of, for example, aliens (and, for the record, I do), wish to be taken seriously, they need to be more a lot more rigourous than to make statements like, for example, "UFOs are alien spacecraft". More importantly still, I wish ATS would encourage such rigour rather than running nonsensical polls.

Criticism of the designers of ATS, eh?

Why are you asking us what we think? Go tell them what you think.

Honestly, I think all the phenomenon's they have listed and people with mental issues is a broad enough spectrum for however you see it.

Obviously each case is individual and should be judged in such a way, but i believe the poll is referring to the phenomenon as a whole....and i like it.

Try not to be so pedantic and vote.... you may enjoy it

1) Yes. Given the nature of ATS's remit, I presume that such an activity is permitted and even encouraged.

2) Why does anyone ask what someone else thinks on here? It's a community for discussion and, like most posters, I hope someone will get some value out of my post.

3) You, too, miss the point. It's not about the breadth of spectrum of possible explanations for a UFO, it's that the question is meaningless by its own definition.

For a community operating under the motto "deny ignorance", I would have thought pedantry would be an aim rather than something to be avoided.

Would being what do you think of flying giraffes be that much more meaningful?

It's a damn question, it's not suppose to be meaningful.

Here's some advice, make a post that is actually interesting, and not similar to the gum stuck to my shoe(hate that sucker...).

How can the world not believe in UFO's /unidentified flying objects, as they have been around throughout history. Not saying aliens piloting spacecaft.

I believe in other than human intelligent forms of life.
Not saying humans are intelligent because clearly not all are.
I do think aliens pilot space craft.

I think disclosure is irrelevant.

Did I vote? Was not to sure, I hope I covered all the bases.
I am very opinionated today. Please forgive.

well yes...you may have thought that, but there are exceptions... like in a member poll.

Would you like to have a poll on every confirmed UFO sighting ever recorded..?
Or just a simple, site-wide poll on the phenomenon, to get an overview of what the general feeling of members is?

My feeling is that even if nobody was responding to your thread....you'd still be arguing with yourself

Shouldnt it be up to the individual to make there own suggestion of what they saw. so when somone says they see a UFO you dont beleive them is that the case. i understand not everyone may get the same train of thought on the subject but it is up to the individual to make there own assesment of what they saw, if you dont beleive them then so be it but no need to smear them if there views dont match yours.

So, in other words, you don't understand what I'm getting at and, besides, you don't really care either way whether anything on here is actually meaningful? By all means entertain yourself with another thread.

Please post your question or concern to the The ATS Issues Thread that thread is read by ATS Administration.

This is the description of the Aliens and UFOs forum.

This forum is dedicated to the discussion of historic and contemporary events related to extraterrestrial encounters, UFO sightings, and speculation about related subjects. Discussion topics and follow-up responses in this forum will likely tend to lean in favor of the existence of extraterrestrials and the related conspiracies, scandals, and cover-ups. Members who would seek to refute such theories should be mindful of AboveTopSecret.com\'s tradition of supporting the examination of the \"extraterrestrial phenomenon\" on the related conspiracy theories, cover-ups, and scandals.
