No offense to ANYONE... but come on... as adults... do some of us actually care about ATS points?

Really? Tell me this is a joke and I just dont get it!

Right there is the trouble with ASSUMING - stick around for a while and you will realize that a majority of posters are in junior high ( or at least early high school ) - you can tell by the way a topic is debated ( or lack thereof ) and by the name calling.

Have a wonderful day, and feel free to POO POO my post - haha

I've been here since '05 - long time. Heck - longer than most. Longer than even yourself I just noticed! Wow. I was Sky Fox for a year or more actually. But people kept thinking I was a dude so I started anew.

This place was a cute lil infant when I hit the scene. LOL

I have seen some of the nicest people in real life be SO evil online. I also find ON EVERY BOARD that there is always 'that crowd' that seem to act so childish they MUST be very young. Only to be surprised to find the individual is actually a 64 yr old - bitter - MSN watching ol bat.

Drama succeeds and abounds all ages.

There are plenty of ways to make points on ATS. This thread is a bit dated but still pretty accurate.

All About Points.

Make a few podcasts and you'll have more points than you know what to do with.

You beat me to it.

I just want to add though, Getting stars does not give you points. Starring a post only gives acknowledgement that you agree with that post. But that is not to take away from starring. Showing your respect and agreement with a post is a great thing to do. It shows the poster that they did a good job.

As far as points go, they really don't matter all that much; you get a much more fullfilling experience, if you post for yourself rather than for the points.

Stars and Flags tend to given out based on the topical nature of a thread this is why threads related to Ron Paul , scraping the Fed , other anti establishment dribble and UFOs e.t.c will always get a higher proportion of stars and flags then other higher quality topical threads . There is no fix for the problem only a work around . I have found that the best thing to do is to find a group of members whose intellect you respect and who you feel can make there case in a manner you can work with and focus your discussions on the boards with them .

But hang on, this is exactly what the site is about. Scrapping the Fed, UFOs, recognising that the establishment has been one big lie - the war on our consciousness has always been the biggest conspiracy around (why it wasn't even listed on the 'Biggest ATS Conspiracies On ATS' puzzles me).

So if you are complaining that stars and flags are given out more to UFO/anti-establishment topics, then why are you even here? Surely you will realise that you are out of sync with the backbone of this website?

And yes, I notice the people that 'don't quite fit in' with the website tend to work in cliques - the stars sometimes magically come out of nowhere for a point of view that needs to be hushed down. Hmmmm.

And as others have pointed out, there seem to be groups of people that run around the boards starring each others posts whether the posts make sense or not. I like to call them the star brigade.

Very well said it seems to be happening more frequently ,,, if anything it is more discouraging though ... I could spend 2 days thinking of an amazing thread to share my view with others . then the (star brigade) come along with something like " i have 2 thumbs....weird" and instantly receive 15 flags and 10 stars. as my greatly well thought out thread drops instantly.

Getting a bit ridiculous and like high school on here with the cliques .

LMAO, its high school all over again... were here to be enlighten and to enlighten others. To give and recieve knowledge, who cares about stars and flags. Its not a beauty contest.

My 2 cents

That is what a lot members have chosen to make topics out of . Any rational person can see that the problem with the anti establishment crowd is that anything that becomes a perceived part of the establishment is evil including in some quarters ATS .

So if you are complaining that stars and flags are given out more to UFO/anti-establishment topics, then why are you even here? Surely you will realise that you are out of sync with the backbone of this website?

Hey I just made an observation you seem to have taken issue with it . As a member I have the luxury of not reading every thread . If I get sick of the anti establishment dribble I just avoid any threads that are a part of this . Sometimes I am amazed at how easily people are led or how naive people can be . For example some members brought that Bush had Pardoned Bin Laden hook line and sinker .

Oh its ease to be a member of the anti establishment crowd you never have to accept any rational but your own . Take Ron Paul for example most of his supporters on the boards don't seem to have thought his thou . Rather they support him because they perceive him as being anti establishment . In the event Paul was elected most of his supporters would turn against him because he would have become perceived as a part of the establishment .

And yes, I notice the people that 'don't quite fit in' with the website tend to work in cliques - the stars sometimes magically come out of nowhere for a point of view that needs to be hushed down. Hmmmm.

I don't follow you here .
Do you mean for example how a post that deals with current drug laws may get a lot of stars because it is against the T&C ?

I was on a post earlier and someone made the comment that they had more points therefore their views were more valid! I was thinking to myself, this is just a discussion forum and this person thinks their points really matter?! I dont care how many points someone has I give everyone the same respect. I read a lot more on here than I post because many times I dont think what I have to say is really contributing. Heck even when I do respond I still think it wasnt contributing that much..lol I am still new to all of this and I dont have much time to really throughly research many things I like and post on them. I am looking at a certain topic and when I have it put together I will post my first real thread with some actual info.
: I just dont see why the whole points things matters at all!
I noticed you mentioned RATS, I did get points to get into RATS and well it's not what I thought it would be, but you never know you might like it. What I may not like someone else will love

I'm pretty sure I'll never make it! I'm not looking for points in this thread, btw. Just curious as to what I perceive as a certain stinginess at this site. I give out lots of stars and so far haven't been chastised for it. Uh oh, is my liberalness showing?
Here goes.

With an attitude like that, no you will never make it.

However, here in this particular forum area, where you posted this particular thread, stars are not rewarded to people for posting, period.

If you're looking for some pointers, stop worrying about points, and make a high-quality submission.

Yes and I noticed that it was impossible to even give you one crummy star for this post because the mods moved it into the trash bin............so here you go, one of my very own stars.[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/d2a0381215ce.gif[/atsimg]

In reality, I've seen some pretty stupid posts get a lot of stars and some very significant posts get a few.

In general though, posts that generate a lot of stars are ones, for the most part that the person has put a lot of time, effort and thought into.

Does it matter? I recently got a message here that I got some free points...cool. I checked and my cummulative amount was in the multiple thousands....didn't even know it.

So, I cashed some in and paid a few bills and then bought some groceries...had enough left, I bought a Coke after filling my gas tank.

Seriously, recognition is nice...but I really get off when i find a new idea or concept or perspective that I had not considered. I enjoy the mental debate here and exchange of ideas...even ones I do not agree with or care for. Look at ATS as a tool and resource.... not a lifestyle.

Stars and flags are great, but I still have to go out when I'm done and shovel real horse poop, feed the animals, mend the fences, and chop wood, then run errands...and fix supper, and wash dishes, and....
