This is a pretty amazing example of how some people just don't want to acknowledge early warnings of danger because it isn't convenient.

The mayor got upset and now people are dead because of it.

In my opinion, it's a 50/50 gamble. You leave town and nothing happens, now you've wasted money and lost your job, but you're still alive. Hang out and gamble against the quake; some of those people might not be alive today.

The advent of the internet shows us how strange the world actually is...

My pleasure, just something I stumbled across this after I got to work.

I am a little shocked, though, that this news came out within hours of the actual earthquake. Generally these things get stamped out before they can hit the mainstream. I found the link on the Drudge Report.
