Democrats duck Bush torture probe

www.prisonplanet.com

Aides to several Democratic lawmakers who signed the June 2008 letter told me that the focus has shifted to the economy and that pressure for a special prosecutor to bring criminal charges over the Bush administration’s past actions could become a distraction to that focus.

They added that the most that now can be expected is either a “blue ribbon” investigative panel, such as Conyers proposed earlier this year, or a similar “truth and reconciliation commission”

Ah yes the Republicrats strike again.

It seems the Obama Administration inherited a lot of baggage from the Bush era, not the least of which is a propensity to dispel constitutional breaches of power by distracting the public with economic/military/political or other various issues deemed "more pressing" than the former, friggin' President of the United States authorizing explicit torture.

I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with Obama, to the point where it wouldn't surprise me if he authorized a Presidential Pardon for President Bush and any alleged wrongdoings during his tenure.

It seems the best form of "justice" that can be levelled at the Bush Administration's crimes now is a lame-duck review panel to look over individual accounts of torture from former inmates Guantanamo.

Despite the fact the 55 Democrats who signed a letter in June, 2008, all agreed with the following:

“This information indicates that the Bush administration may have systematically implemented, from the top down, detainee interrogation policies that constitute torture or otherwise violate the law.

“We believe that these serious and significant revelations warrant an immediate investigation to determine whether actions taken by the President, his Cabinet, and other Administration officials are in violation of the War Crimes Act, the Anti-Torture Act, and other U.S. and international laws.

“Despite the seriousness of the evidence, the Justice Department has brought prosecution against only one civilian for an interrogation-related crime. Given that record, we believe it is necessary to appoint a special counsel in order to ensure that a thorough and impartial investigation occurs.”

What happened since June?

Did their balls drop off? Did Cheney and Bush twist the wrists of all 55 signatories to drop the case?

And people think Democrats and Republicans are different. Yeah they're different alright, different sides of the same coin.

The same side of the coin.

While the media is in a frenzy about the Pittsburg killings, the real mass murderers are walking around Capitol Hill. The perps and the accessories to these crimes were/are running our government.

I can't help but wonder: With the crimes so obvious and the proof so readily available (even taped confessions), should we be following the orders (aka laws) of this clearly criminal regime? It's clear they are no longer legitimate.

I realize all our media is corporate owned but has anyone identified the mechanism where these media organizations maintain a "hands-off" policy for government crimes? Is this relationship a formal policy or is this being done with a wink and a nod? Has anyone identified the individuals responsible in media for aiding the "government" in maintaining control?

Too little time, too many questions.......

It's only the Red Cross who seems to be calling for more light to be shone on the Bush era's shady past, instead of the people who actually have the power to prosecute him:

A leaked Red Cross report on CIA "torture" of detainees offers fresh ammunition to demands that officials from the Bush administration be prosecuted for their conduct, rights groups have revealed.

President Barack Obama has so far sidestepped calls from some fellow Democrats and from civil liberties activists to go after officials from the previous administration over torture allegations, saying he wants to "look forward."

www.google.com...

Look forward to what?

A continued era of hush and quiet over the failings of the Government-backed Financial Institutions who caused the worst economic crisis in recent history?

I'm not looking forward to history repeating...

He's looking forward to being an accessory-after-the-face to BushCo's crimes. He's looking forward to being the primary perp in carrying out a range of new crimes.

There's no salvaging this "government", it's too far gone. With few exceptions, these people are criminals.

That's exactly how I would put it.

If you see it happening and fail to speak up or stop it, you are complicit.

He's too busy accepting kickbacks from AIG and covering the Bank's asses in the financial mess to have time to prosecute one of the gravest constitutional breaches in history.

He can't issue a pardon for something that he's refusing to even investigate.

Sure he can.

President Carter pardoned Nixon even though he never issued the creation of a formal investigative body to look into the Watergate scandal.

The Shadow Gov't had neutered them long ago.

The only way is for the people to vote them out, impeach or redress.

Why won't that happen?
one reason is - the judicial system ignores crimes of Administration, Judicial rules of law as does Congress regarding the afore mentioned and regarding lobbying Corporations and big money donations and undisclosed, yet many times obvious reciprications.

Another reason is that there seems to be a wall of silence that through intimidation, black mail, coercion, physical, psychological or threat and by example eliminating obsticles. Anything that undermines our rights by denying pursuit of legal remedies, even using unconstitutional themes.

No standing is a theme in dropping action filed to force Obama to provide a birth certificate.

Another is manipulation of the system by legal techniques such as excessive filings, motions, injunctions, and later, appeals and other legal instruments that delay, out finance or both and bribery of course, keeping a matter held up in the court system indefinitely.

Half the house and senate should be indicted along with them.
